The UNC Upward Bound Program is a Federal TRiO Program funded to help Scholars build the skills and motivation necessary to pursue and succeed in college and attain a Bachelor's Degree. Each summer, the program offers Scholars a comprehensive, 6-week academy that provides academic enrichment, professional development, and personal growth opportunities. Upward Bound Scholars engage in Math, Science, English, Spanish, and History courses.
Academic Instructors
Academic Instructors are responsible for teaching Upward Bound's rising sophomores and rising juniors from Chatham, Durham, and Lee counties on special topics in select core classes. These classes include Math, English (Rhetoric and Composition), Science, History, and Spanish. This allows Academic Instructors to offer Scholars a contextualized exploration into the subject area they are studying while teaching the skills necessary for future high school course success.
Academic Instructors will work closely with the Upward Bound Academic Advisor and Assistant Director to determine best practices and develop curriculum designed to meet Scholars' needs.

Academic Instructors join a team of CHEOP/Upward Bound staff, including the College Prep Coach and Wellness Coach, who work collaboratively to ensure the success of the Summer Academy.
The 6-week Summer Program will run from June 21, 2025, to August 1, 2025. All student evaluations are due by August 8, 2025.
