The Department of Biological Sciences, within the College of Sciences at NC State University, is dedicated to research and teaching in a broad range of aspects of the biological sciences. The Department has strong undergraduate, graduate, and postdoctoral programs and substantial extramural support to develop and maintain integrative research programs. Additionally, the Department partners with other life sciences units across the University to enhance its mission to conduct interdisciplinary research and training programs. Department
of Biological Sciences consists of 69 faculty members, 3 graduate programs (Fisheries and Wildlife Conservation Biology, Genetics/Genomics, and Toxicology), and 9 undergraduate programs.
The faculty are extraordinary scholars, many of whom have won awards for teaching and research, and are fellows in their respective field societies. Faculty continually receive research grants from the National Science Foundation and the National Institutes for Health.

Essential Job Duties |
The Department of Biological Sciences is seeking
lecturers (part-time) to teach Biology courses (initially
BIO 183 Introductory Biology: Cellular and Molecular Biology), with the potential for others in the future, in the 2025-2026 academic year as a member of Professional Faculty. The Professional Faculty is expected to work successfully with students, other faculty, and industry partners. Specific hiring needs for the entire academic year are still being determined. Applications will be kept on file should openings arise in subsequent semesters. The position(s) may be one-semester to one-year, non-tenure track appointment(s) with the possibility of renewal.
The lecturer is responsible for coordinating, planning, preparing, delivering, and evaluating classroom instruction and related activities. Each lecturer is expected to develop and maintain syllabi for their assigned classes. The lecturer will have full responsibility for teaching courses in biology, with class sizes up to 240 students. Responsibilities include teaching lecture and/or lab sections and holding office hours each week, as well as writing, administering, and grading exams and any other assessments the instructor uses in the course. Lecturers in multi-section courses are expected to work with course coordinators and other instructors to ensure consistency across sections of a course. Participation in preparatory sessions for teaching labs associated with a course is strongly encouraged. |

Minimum Education and Experience |
Requires master's degree, an equivalent degree, or equivalent professional experience.

Expertise in the area course(s) are taught in. |
