About This Role

This position manages the daily operations of the Department of Biochemistry and Molecular Biophysics administrative office. Responsibilities include providing clerical support for the Department Head, serving as an initial point of contact in the office by answering phones, assisting students, faculty, and staff in multiple tasks, maintaining the departmental website, and performing other related duties as required. Effective conduct of these responsibilities requires strong organizational and interpersonal skills, knowledge of the departmental and university procedures, and proficiency in current office technologies.


About Us

Department of Biochemistry and Molecular Biophysics is an academic unit within the College of Arts and Sciences. The department offers undergraduate and graduate degrees in Biochemistry and houses laboratories that perform cutting-edge biochemical and biophysical research. The department is located in Chalmers Hall on the KSU campus.


Worksite Option

This position is on-site.

Work schedule is 8 am-5 pm, 40 hours per week.


What You'll Need to Succeed

Minimum Qualifications:



  • One year of relevant experience.


Preferred Qualifications:



  • Be able to communication both orally and in writing using knowledge of English, spelling and grammar
  • Ability to understand and follow verbal and written instructions; read and comprehend written materials.
  • Ability to operate personal computers and office equipment.
  • Ability to design and enter information in a variety of formats (such as narrative, manuscripts, business correspondence, statistical tables, etc.
  • Ability to proofread and edit for grammar, spelling, syntax and style.
  • Possess ability to learn new techniques and computer programs quickly and to teach others new skills.
  • Ability to interact with a diverse population and to tactfully gather information which may be needed for reports.
  • Ability to develop and document procedures for various tasks.
  • Have good working knowledge of university rules, regulations, policies and procedures.
  • Due to access to sensitive information such as student records and faculty evaluations, it is preferred that the individual be trustworthy and capable of keeping confidential information.
  • A good working knowledge of scientific and/or medical vocabulary is desirable.
