Responsible for development, implementation and supervision of Food and Nutrition Services (FNS) strategic technology plan. Works with district leadership, staff, internal and external stakeholders to ensure FNS staff maintains appropriate technology to effectively and efficiently provide meals to students. Creates and overseas technology databases, explores existing technology needs, forecast technology needs, and stays abreast of technology trends for updates to department. Ensures technology standards comply with local, state, and federal regulations, policies, and guidelines.


Essential Functions



  • Establishes and maintains FNS technology standards for school-based and district office staff.
  • Researches and identifies technical updates, trends and requirements that impacts FNS technology needs and equipment. Develops communication and implementation plans for technology requirements and upgrades.
  • Implements and overseas inventory database and control measures.
  • Manages the development and implementation of technology strategy, technology usage, internal controls, and quality standards.
  • Analyzes and identifies opportunities for technology improvement for cafeteria staff and district office staff.
  • Coordinates with procurement, operations, accountability, and Information Technology Department (ITD) regarding FNS technology requirements and reporting metrics.
  • Works with internal and external stakeholders to stay abreast of new technology requirements, technology improvement requests, and technology concerns.
  • Manages specialists that provide basic technical support - laptops, computers, printers, FNS technology.
  • Overseas equipment troubleshooting requests and basic maintenance.
  • Supports and trains FNS staff on technology updates, new equipment, and new technology.
  • Develops technology training strategy. Assists Manager - FNS Training with the implementation of the technology training strategy and technology training modules.
  • Identifies and maintains FNS technology standards. Ensures schools and district office adheres to usage requirements and standards.
  • Acts as a liaison with the Information Technology department to ensure implemented technology strategies coincides with City Schools technology plans and requirements and to ensure that systems and system changes are properly executed and documented.
  • Manages the deployment of technical resources, communications with all central office departments and schools, and communications with external resources such as vendors and/or consultants.
  • Overseas the monitoring of technical control hardware and software problems that have been reported to ITD for follow up and strategy implementation.
  • Connects with technology vendors to ensure proper escalation of technical problem/issues that impacts meal service. Develops action plans to ensure no disruption of meal services due to technology concerns.

Desired Qualifications



  • Bachelor's degree in Food Services Management, Information Technology, Culinary Arts, Institutional Management, Business Administration, or related field.
  • Five years related supervisory/administrative/leadership experience.
  • Experience in managing professional and support staff and in preparing and managing budgets.
  • Knowledge of the procedures, policies, practices and methods of food service operation.
  • Knowledge of local, state and federal regulations regarding food services nutritional standards, dietary guidelines and reporting requirements.
  • Knowledge of facility designs, food and equipment specification, warehouse and central production facility operation, profit and loss analysis and procurement procedures.
  • Knowledge of the preparation and administration of budgets and reports.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills including ability to make effective presentations.
  • Interpersonal skills that ensure effective teambuilding.
  • Ability to coordinate and ensure effective oversight of the work of employees in multiple locations.
  • Proficient in the knowledge and use of technical computer applications including Microsoft Word, Excel, Access, Outlook or comparable software.

In accordance with Maryland law, City School is required to share the position salary ranges in its entirety. Please note, this is not the hiring range. The hiring range for this position is ($80,018 - $100,422)
