The Student Accounts Office (
SAO) is committed to providing excellent service to students throughout their educational experience at the George Washington University. SAO's goal is to ensure that student accounts are billed, collected, and reconciled in a timely manner that is compliant with university policy and all applicable federal regulations. This includes, but is not limited to: tuition, fees, room and board.
SAO is also responsible for processing refunds, generating the 1098-T
IRS form, and billing for third party agreements. The office works closely with the several GW offices to provide students and parents with a helpful, friendly experience when completing administrative and financial tasks.
Reporting to the Director of Student Accounts, this position is responsible for non-student billing, preparing account reconciliations and financial reports, performing complex analytics on tuition revenue and bad debt, maintaining compliance for Title IV, escheatment, and other policies, supporting GW's 1098T process, assistance with annual audit, managing
SAO systems testing, managing the
SAO website, and other student communications. This position will also provide advice and support to the Director of Student Accounts and staff across campus in support of the overall mission of the division.
The position will also collaborate with other operating units to ensure compliance with university policies, identify potential process improvement and promote an environment of constant awareness and improvement. The position will promote the customer service effort, including researching and analyzing customer inquiries.
This position is a key position with the Student Accounts Office and will have input on strategy and tactics as well as exposure to various university partners.
This position performs other related duties as assigned. The omission of specific duties does not preclude the supervisor from assigning duties that are logically related to the position. |
Minimum Qualifications: |
Qualified candidates will hold a Bachelor's degree in an appropriate area of specialization plus 5 years of relevant professional experience, or, a Master's degree or higher in a relevant area of study plus 3 years of relevant professional experience. Degree must be conferred by the start date of the position. Degree requirements may be substituted with an equivalent combination of education, training and experience. |
Additional Required Licenses/Certifications/Posting Specific Minimum Qualifications: |

Preferred Qualifications: |
- Experience in higher education is desired
- Working knowledge of Banner and or Oracle ERP systems / environments is preferred
- Experience in financial report generation and analysis, i.e. create ad hoc reports is desired
- Experience in account auditing, identifying problems, and making recommendations to management is a plus
- Experience/ working knowledge of relevant regulations, including but not limited to Title IV, 1098Ts, collections, etc is preferred
- Working knowledge of Microsoft Office
- Experience working with confidential information; the knowledge of, and the skill to adhere to federal and state laws as they apply to student records including the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act of 1974 (FERPA) is desired
- Knowledge of and ability to effectively manage a high volume operation is a plus
