Job Summary

Reporting to the Director, Digital Content, the senior manager will create high-quality, HBR-style content with actionable takeaways tailored to an architect audience.

This original content will align with AIA's primary objectives and reflect its messaging and advocacy goals across various platforms, including AIA.org and the AIA Architect online publication. Serving as the primary point of contact for AIA's weekly email newsletter, this role ensures content is timely, relevant, engaging, and representative of AIA's core content topics.

The senior manager works closely with the broader MarCom team to meet design and advertising goals and to provide content for AIA's social media efforts. The senior manager is responsible for ensuring the efficient workflow and coordination between stakeholders and communications team.

Job Duties

  • Integrate editorial content across AIA platforms. Construct and maintain an editorial process that advances AIA's communications, thought leadership and organizational goals while maintaining brand integrity.
  • Develop editorial calendar that produces content and material that is of interest to the profession and is aligned with the goals of the association.
  • As directed by the Director, Digital Content develop and maintain a diverse network of freelance writers to deliver top-notch content.
  • Develop, author, edit and post/publish original editorial content for AIA properties and platforms.
  • Identify opportunities to reshape and repurpose existing content across various formats, including video, podcasts, and AI-generated materials, to advance organizational goals across membership, the public, and other priority audiences.
  • Create content that is compelling and relatable to the profession and to a wider audience, including infographics and podcasts.
  • Work closely with Director, Digital Content and other MarCom colleagues to ensure that messaging is consistent across AIA and across all AIA communications vehicles, including speeches and member and volunteer leader communications.
  • Foster positive relationships across AIA to improve collaboration and integration to ensure alignment and editorial transparency with organizational goals.
  • Provide ad copy and editing support for marketing materials as needed.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  • Demonstrated editing, writing, and verbal communications skills required. Editorial project management and experience managing writers, consultants and designers strongly preferred.
  • Demonstrated expertise in leveraging generative AI to develop story concepts, enhance content quality, and streamline editorial workflows.

Ability to multitask with overlapping assignments, multiple deadlines, and shifting priorities. Demonstrated success with turning complex and nuanced copy/content into effective and relatable social media content.

  • Exceptional interpersonal and organizational skills to collaborate cross-functionally and maintain a transparent editorial calendar, enabling seamless planning for content, resource, and product cross-promotion.
  • Excellent with email marketing systems such as Rasa, SalesForce Marketing Cloud, as well as digital publishing tools such as Drupal, Adobe Photoshop, and WordPress. [Removed: Adobe Illustrator, Adobe Dreamweaver]
  • Experience managing complex multimedia projects involving interactive, video, and audio components desired.

Bachelor's degree in Journalism, English, Business, Political Science, Communications, New Media, or related field with 5-7 years of experience working as part of a digital publishing team, as a writer or editor for a professional or trade association, or as a staff writer or editor at a publication or as a freelance writer covering the architecture and design industry. Knowledge of architecture and urban planning is preferred.

Work Location: 100% Remote from the Washington DC area


All AIA employees in the DC metro area are currently working remotely during our office renovation.

Employees in the DC Metro area will return to a hybrid work environment in the newly renovated office at the completion of the renovation in later summer 2025.
