Senior Sustainability Consultant Your tasks
This full-time position's anticipated annual base pay range is $90,000-$110,000. Actual base pay will be determined based on various factors, including years of relevant experience, training, qualifications, and internal equity. The compensation package may also include an annual bonus target, subject to eligibility and other requirements. The role of the Senior Sustainability Consultant is focused on the delivery of world-class sustainability consulting solutions and practices that are aligned with the long-term interests of our clients, the company, and the communities in which we live. This role is a critical component of SIG's diverse team of sustainability professionals tasked with delivering projects spanning all phases of the building lifecycle for a large roster of commercial real estate clients. The ideal candidate for this role is passionate about sustainability, a lifelong learner, creative, flexible, and capable of driving project outcomes while ensuring client satisfaction. Responsibilities: Project Management & Execution Independently lead and perform billable project work for a variety of clients; as well as a variety of project types such as LEED BD+C, LEED ID+C, LEED O+M, Fitwel, WELL, and BREEAM. Carefully read project proposal, contract and/or requirements documentation, clarify any areas of question or concern related to scope, deliverables, budget and/or timeline internally and/or with the client, and utilize details to build a project delivery plan, execution schedule and billing schedule. Set-up projects in relevant business systems and ensure critical data is reported, as well as managed and updated over time. Manage project schedules and deadlines for multiple projects running on different timelines. Consult with clients to develop plans, set appropriate goals and recommend effective solutions. Assign and execute project activities following defined project schedules, and actively monitor, report and/or escalate any issues that may impact task or project delivery (budget, timeline, deliverable quality, etc.) Analyze data related to energy usage, water efficiency, waste management, and other sustainability metrics and prepare clear and concise written reports that convey technical information, understanding of the client's needs and objectives and outcomes aligned with those objectives. Develop documentation and exhibits to satisfy the specified requirements for assigned projects and/or develop policies and procedures to improve a client's environmental awareness and reduce negative environmental impacts. Create and/or facilitate clear, consistent and timely internal/external project communications on a variety of topics such as project needs, progress updates, and deliverable details via meetings, emails, calls and other appropriate communication channels. Regularly coordinate with applicable project stakeholders, such as owners, owner's representatives, architects, contractors, and subcontractors, to collect and access information, as well as provide feedback and/or guidance. Plan, facilitate and/or attend project meetings, and satisfy internal and client reporting requirements. Organize, submit, and monitor building certifications from inception through completion and award. Execute quality control reviews of project deliverables and/or other materials prepared by Associate Sustainability Consultant(s), Sustainability Consultant(s), and/or other Senior Sustainability Consultant(s), as needed. Resource Management Break down project work into clear tasks, with well-defined requirements and deadlines, and delegate to Intern(s), Associate Sustainability Consultant(s), and/or Sustainability Consultant(s), as appropriate. Actively collaborate with resources within and across departments to ensure that work for supporting, adjacent and/or parallel scopes (such as Energy Models, LCA, Energy Star, etc.) align and support overall project success. Provide useful and constructive feedback to Intern(s), Associate Sustainability Consultant(s), and/or Sustainability Consultant(s), as needed, to help them develop their skill set and improve individual performance. Report recurring Intern(s), Associate Sustainability Consultant(s), and/or Sustainability Consultant(s), performance issues to the individual's personnel manager. Support the success of the Intern Program by providing the Program Manager with feedback and ideas to improve the program, assist with development projects for the program and/or serve as an Intern Manager. Teamwork & Professional Development Complete timesheets, management check-ins, and expense reports in a timely manner. Actively participate in weekly Team, Department, and/or Company Meetings. Travel to project and/or client location to attend meetings, observe progress and/or execute onsite assessments, as needed. Build expertise in SIG's core sustainability services and share ideas regarding potential new service areas. Provide feedback and/or ideas for how to improve technical or operational processes and standards. Provide content ideas and/or materials to the Marketing Department via Blog Posts or other marketing projects/initiatives. Provide referrals and/or leads to the Sales Department via standard tools and methods, as well as contribute to the sales process as requested/necessary (scope and/or proposal development, requirements review, sales meetings, etc.). Participate in continuing education to maintain and grow your professional credentials, as well as continually expand and/or refine technical and project management skills via virtual and/or on-site educational experiences. Expand knowledge and expertise in green building sustainable design techniques relevant to new construction and existing building certifications by reading articles, listening to podcasts, attending and/or participating in topic presentations and/or discussion forums. Participate in LEED, WELL, BREEAM, and/or other industry associations' opportunities, and leverage mentorship relationships and learning opportunities with more senior team members within and outside your department. Track short and long-term personal and professional goals throughout the year. Your qualifications
Education and Experience: Bachelor's degree (B.S.) in related field Minimum of 5 years of consulting and project management experience Key sustainability (LEED, WELL, BREEAM) and/or project management (PMP, PMI-PBA) certifications Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: Expert knowledge of local, regional, and national sustainable business strategies, as well as key sustainability tools and techniques. Mature project management skills with a focus on consistency and client experience. Versatility, flexibility, and a willingness to work within constantly changing priorities with enthusiasm. Strong organizational, problem-solving, and analytical skills with acute attention to detail. Ability to analyze data, evaluate outcomes, and recommend actions. Outstanding verbal and written communication skills. Commitment to excellence and high standards.
