Location: Lowell General Hospital - 295 Varnum Avenue - Lowell, MA

Hours: (4) (8) or (12) hour shifts primarily days 8:00am - 4:30pm/evenings - 3:00pm - 11:00pm

Job Overview

This position performs respiratory therapy treatment in designated inpatient areas of the hospital according to the policies, procedures, philosophies, and objectives of the department. Administers respiratory therapy treatment modalities, oxygen delivery, mechanical ventilator management, diagnostic procedures (e.g., blood gas sampling and analysis, bedside pulmonary function testing, pulse oximetry, EKG's), and Basic Cardiac Life Support (BCLS). Assists with the functioning and troubleshooting of respiratory therapy equipment. Communicate effectively and cooperatively with patients, family members, and hospital personnel. Duties are limited to areas covered by Massachusetts RC limited permit.

Minimum Qualifications

1. High School Diploma

2. Respiratory Care Limited Permit.

3. Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.

4. Relevant clinical and patient care experience.

Duties and Responsibilities

The duties and responsibilities listed below are intended to describe the general nature of work and are not intended to be an all-inclusive list. Other duties and responsibilities may be assigned.

1. Effectively administers respiratory therapy treatment modalities, oxygen therapy, bedside pulmonary function testing, pulse oximetry with exercise, EKG's, and other prescribed services.

2. Applies department's respiratory care protocols and to produce accurate documentation associated with these protocols.

3. Effectively operates mechanical ventilators, respond to codes and traumas, and carry out other critical care duties specified by department policy and allowed under limited permit.

4. Effectively draw and analyze blood gases, run quality controls and co-oximetry, perform computer entry, and perform other duties within the scope of the department's blood gas services.

5. Produces thorough and accurate documentation in department treatment cards, and Electronic medical records. This includes the Medication Administration record, Progress notes, powerforms and ventilator monitoring, non-invasive ventilation, HHN/MDI treatment and oxygen therapy interventions.

6. Demonstrates diligence and accuracy in computer charging and crediting.
