Job Description
ECU Department of ITCS Security is currently seeking an Information Security Student Intern.

The Information Security Office provides leadership on information security vision, strategy, and policy, advising the CIO and other university colleagues on information security and IT risk management functions that support ECU in fulfilling our mission, business obligations, and compliance requirements. The Information Security Office manages ECU's Information Security Program, which is composed of policies, standards, processes, and guidance that collectively form an information security governance framework for the university. Our group is led by the Chief Information Security Officer ( CISO), and is within ITCS, the university's central IT organization. The Information Security Group includes the Cyber Security Operations Center ( CSOC) team responsible for detecting, analyzing, and facilitating the university's investigations and response to cyber threats and security incident.

Information Security Student Intern

The students participating in these student worker positions gain valuable hands-on experience in information security, something critical to the world economy, and will develop and refine knowledge and skills to prepare them to be successful in the global market. The student interns will have the opportunity to learn and apply skills in information security and cyber security, in areas such as IT risk management, technology security assessment, security awareness, and cyber security incident response functions. Responsibilities of the Information Security Student Intern position include the following:

* Perform functions related to the university's Technology Security Assessment ( TSA) processes, handling and updating service request tickets, creating and sharing TSA documentation with the requester, communicating with and assisting the requesting department, documenting TSA progress and status on the TSA Tracking spreadsheet, supporting the Technology Assessment Team, and following through on TSA tickets from submission to completion.
* Review weekly reports from Department of Homeland Security and process the ECU IT Vulnerability Awareness SOP.
* Perform functions related to Risk Acceptance (RA) processes, facilitating the steps in the Risk Acceptance Procedure, handling and updating tickets, working with the requester, updating the RA Repository in Team Dynamix, and reaching out to stakeholders in advance to alert them of RAs scheduled to expire.
* Participate in knowledge sharing with other information security analysts.
* Assist the Information Security Office in developing security awareness materials for staff, faculty, and students, writing with high quality and accurate technical details.
* Maintain a working knowledge of security policies and execute security controls as assigned.
* Other duties as assigned
Preferred (Majors, Experience, GPA, etc.)
The Information Security Office has two student interns on staff during each academic year (fall and spring semesters). You must be an East Carolina University student to qualify. We're looking for highly capable ECU sophomores or juniors (or seniors if returning after serving previously in a similar internship), typically majoring in disciplines including Information and Computer Technology, Computer Science, Technology Management, Network Technology, Cyber Security, and Management Information Systems (although other relevant majors may also be considered). We look for students with exceptional grade point averages, and consider other qualities including leadership, communication ability, and community service experiences.
Special Instructions to Applicant
Our interns work on a part-time basis, approximately 15-20 hours per week, performing the duties of an entry-level information security analyst under the supervision of full-time information security specialists. Students in the position are required to sign a confidentiality agreement.
