Job Description
Southwest Virginia Community College (Southwest) offers career-training programs innumerous technical, industrial and medical fields at a reasonable cost, going so far as to even waive tuition for certain eligible students. Located in Richlands, Virginia, Southwest offers associate's degrees in such fields as business, education, general studies, liberal arts and science. These degrees are primarily intended for students who wish to transfer to a four-year university. Southwest also has associate's degrees that feature programs intended to lead directly to a career in fields such as Nursing, Radiography and Administration of Justice.

This position will provide support and assistance to distance learning students and faculty of Southwest Virginia Community College. Duties also include providing online course orientation support, administering tests in the testing center, following instructor guidelines and ensuring the integrity and security of testing information, administering Pearson Vue and other specialized testing services as needed. This position will work in Student Information Systems and Learning Management Systems (Canvas) as needed. This position will ensure the testing center remains up to date regarding testing software, administration requirements, and best practices.

This position requires a one-year probationary period for both new hires and transfers.
Special Assignments

May be required to perform other duties as assigned. May be required to assist the agency or state government generally in the event of an emergency declaration by the Governor.

KSA's/Required Qualifications

  • Relevant work or education related experience
  • Demonstrated ability to work in a fast-paced setting, oversee records maintenance, and work with faculty, students and peers in a professional manner.
  • Must have working knowledge and experience in the daily operations of an instructional distance learning program including standard computer skills, data entry and the ability to learn new software applications including SIS, the LMS, and any necessary specialized testing components.
  • Ideal candidate will be self-directed with the ability to work independently and/or as a team member.
  • Must have computer literacy skills to include working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Must have a valid driver's license
  • Successful candidate must have organizational and multi-tasking skills and the ability to prioritize assignments to meet deadlines.


Additional Considerations

  • Knowledge of Student Information System, learning management system, and online tools
  • Peason Vue certification
  • Experience in Distance Learning, Canvas, and Pearson Vue
