JOB DESCRIPTION AND POSITION REQUIREMENTS:

The Business Intelligence Specialist Advanced Professional ensures the integrity, accuracy, and availability of institutional data for the Undergraduate Education office at the Smeal College of Business. Utilizing statistical techniques, the specialist explores data, identifies trends, generates actionable insights, and resolves discrepancies. Responsibilities include developing visual aids and dashboards to support academic and administrative decision-making, collaborating with faculty, staff, and administrators to determine data needs, and advising on analytical methodologies. The role involves producing reports and intelligence on student performance, enrollment trends, and financial metrics for stakeholders. Advanced data analysis techniques, including data mining, modeling, and machine learning, are implemented to transform raw data into meaningful information. The specialist designs and administers surveys, identifies institutional challenges, and delivers presentations of analysis results to support strategic planning and continuous improvement efforts.

Primary Duties:

  • Integrating Data for Enrollment Management and Retention Metrics: Query and analyze data to address "what if" statements regarding undergraduate enrollment management strategy. Combine data from various sources to create Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) and support advising programs critical to retention efforts within the Undergraduate Education office.
  • Predictive Modeling for Attrition and Incoming Change of Major Students: Develop predictive models to estimate potential attrition rates and forecast the number of students requesting change of major into the Smeal College of Business.
  • Building a Student Retention/Success Model: Develop a model to monitor the undergraduate student population from acceptance through graduation, ensuring maximum capacity operation without exceeding targets.
  • Statistical Analysis: Use statistical techniques to explore and interpret data, identify trends, and determine relationships within undergraduate student data. Translate findings into actionable business insights for the Undergraduate Education office.
  • Data Visualization and Reporting: Develop charts, visual aids, and dashboards to display and present data results. Communicate findings to support decision-making and prepare standard and ad hoc reports for the Undergraduate Education office.
  • Business Intelligence and Reporting: Produce financial and market intelligence by querying data repositories and generating periodic reports. Identify data patterns and trends impacting the Undergraduate Education office. Manage timely flow of business intelligence information and create business intelligence tools or systems for the Undergraduate Education office.
  • Advanced Data Analysis: Develop and implement techniques to transform raw data into meaningful information using data-oriented programming languages and visualization software. Apply data mining, data modeling, natural language processing, and machine learning to extract and analyze information from large datasets relevant to the Undergraduate Education office.

Requires a Bachelor's degree or higher plus three years of related experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

The salary range for this position, including all possible grades is:

$76,700.00 - $115,100.00
