Job Summary

**Please note: This is 1 year contract. We offer full benefits (medical, dental, vision) & pension plans.
The Research Coordinator will provide administrative and research support to the principal investigator, project director and research team on multiple research projects:

  1. The UCSF funded research programs: "Heart Health - After Cancer Treatment (HEART-ACT Cancer)" and "Heart Health - After Cardiac Treatment" (HEART-ACT Cardiac)) which aims to pilot test an exercise and health behavior program in breast cancer survivors and heart disease patients to determine whether this program improves cardiovascular risk factors and health outcomes. These pilot programs will be conducted at Zuckerberg San Francisco General Hospital (ZSFG).
  2. The Patient Centered Outcomes Research Institute (PCORI) funded MCNAIR Study which is a multi-center randomized trial to compare traditional in-person cardiac rehabilitation (CR) to telehealth CR.
  3. The American Heart Association (AHA) grant, SUPeRFOOD, which is a randomized trial to compare various methods to initiate and engage in a Food is Medicine program.

The Research Coordinator, under the direction of the principal investigator and project director, will assist in project planning, development, administration, management and implementation of the study aims for all of these research projects. This includes managing Institutional Review Board (IRB) submissions, engaging with stakeholders, acting as the liason between UCSF and the other sites, implementing quality control procedures and data management, writing/updating operations manuals and data collection forms, conducting semi-structured interviews, qualitative data analysis, and administrative tasks such as purchasing of study equipment and subject gift cards, preparing invoics and tracking payments to vendors, etc.

The Research Coordinator should have excellent organizational skills, ability to collaborate with a number of different stakeholders (study team members, patients and professionals), and a passion for research. The Research Coordinator will assist in collaboration with study staff, and patient and professional advisory board members to implement research protocols. The ability to communicate clearly both in meetings and in writing will be an important aspect of this role.

The final salary and offer components are subject to additional approvals based on UC policy.

Your placement within the salary range is dependent on a number of factors including your work experience and internal equity within this position classification at UCSF. For positions that are represented by a labor union, placement within the salary range will be guided by the rules in the collective bargaining agreement.

The salary range for this position is $62,500 - $93,800 (Annual Rate).

Department Description

The Department of Epidemiology and Biostatistics (DEB), housed within the UCSF School of Medicine, is the largest department of epidemiology in the University of California system. The DEB is the epicentre of many of UCSF's initiatives in population health, data science and informatics, health service research, health equity and artificial intelligence. The DEB has three missions: 1) education, 2) science, and 3) research. Its educational mission is to train students in epidemiologic and biostatistical methods for studying disease etiology and prevention, evaluating tests and treatments, and using evidence-based approaches in clinical practice and population health. The scientific mission of the DEB is to perform outstanding basic, clinical and population health research along a spectrum from molecules to society and to develop tools for the translation of knowledge that will improve clinical practice and population health and ensure optimal use of resources. The clinical mission of the Department is to support the practice of public health and preventive medicine in local, state, national and international health agencies.

Required Qualifications


  • Bachelor's degree in public health, epidemiology, biostatistics or related area and / or equivalent experience / training
  • Minimum one year of directly relevant experience
  • Working knowledge of common organization- or research-specific and other computer application programs (MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint, MS Teams, and other Microsoft Office applications)
  • Proficient in communication and interpersonal skills to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing
  • Ability to use discretion and maintain confidentiality of study participant records
  • Demonstrates ability to use sound judgment in responding to issues and concerns
  • Ability to multi-task with demanding timeframes
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision as well as part of a team
  • Demonstrates ability to analyze, research and synthesize large amounts of data with strong attention to detail

Preferred Qualifications


  • Masters in Public Health or equivalent experience/training
  • Experience with UCSF platforms and applications, including OneDrive, MyExpense, BearBuy
  • Experience with preparation of manuscripts for submission to peer-reviewed journals
  • Demonstrates ability to analyze, research and synthesize large amounts of data with strong attention to detail
