DESCRIPTION OF WORK

As a Microbiologist 1, you will conduct bacterial and viral disease diagnostic tests including molecular tests, bacterial isolation, phenotypic and biochemical characterization for the identification of animal pathogens. Primary duties include performing animal disease diagnostic tests using molecular methods, entering test results into an electronic system, and performing serological tests such as ELISA for the detection of antibodies and antigens. Within this role, it is essential to adhere to the proper care and maintenance of laboratory equipment and ensure that testing supplies and reagents are ordered as necessary. - Temporary, full-time employment.
- Work hours are 8:00 AM to 4:00 PM, Monday - Friday, with a 30-minute lunch.
- Telework: You may have the opportunity to work from home (telework) part-time, up to 1 day per month. In order to telework, you must have a securely configured high-speed internet connection and work from an approved location inside Pennsylvania. If you are unable to telework, you will have the option to report to the Pennsylvania Veterinary Laboratory in Harrisburg.
- Salary: In some cases, the starting salary may be non-negotiable.

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE, TRAINING & ELIGIBILITY

QUALIFICATIONS Minimum Experience and Training Requirements:
- A bachelor's degree in microbiology; or
- A bachelor's degree that includes 20 credits in microbiology, cellular biology, molecular biology or bacteriology and 12 credits in chemistry or biochemistry.
- Applicants will be considered to have met the educational requirements once they are within 3 months of graduating with a qualifying degree/credits.

- You must be able to perform essential job functions.
