Job Summary:

The Fluid Biomarker Program, together with the Wisconsin Registry for Alzheimer's Prevention (WRAP), and the Biomarker Core of the Wisconsin Alzheimer's Disease Research Center (WADRC) is seeking a biofluid lab manager to join our team.

As imaging and blood-based biomarkers for neurodegenerative diseases (NDD), including AD, continue to rapidly evolve, there is a need to determine when pathological proteins become detectable in the brain relative to age and risk factors and how they can inform on multi-etiology causes of impairment. The Biofluid Lab supports researchers at UW and abroad through providing core services, including preparing kits for sample collection, managing biospecimens, shipping samples to requestors, and analyzing samples via immunoassays. The lab also supports novel fluid biomarker research, including assay development.

We seek a lab manager to oversee day-to-day operations across the biorepository, sample analysis, and assay development units of our lab. Additional responsibilities include establishing and/or updating laboratory best practices and ensuring accuracy of and adherence to biosafety protocols. The lab manager coordinates and serves as a back-up for on-call emergency freezer management, acts as a liaison and lab expert for collaborating research studies, and manages the administrative and supervisory activities for an active and growing lab. Experience managing multiple projects simultaneously is strongly preferred as well as exemplary organization, attention to detail, interest in human biological research, and ability to work cooperatively in a team environment.

Responsibilities:
Directs the technical activities, operations, planning, and policy development of a lab, including coordinating the activities of multiple, complex projects and staff to ensure quality control and compliance with regulations.

  • 15% Identifies, proposes, and implements new or revised unit operational policies and procedures in alignment with strategic initiatives and objectives
  • 20% Serves as the unit liaison to internal and external stakeholder groups providing information, making recommendations to leadership, and representing the interests of the unit
  • 25% Directs and supervises the day-to-day laboratory operations, quality control programs, and/or staff of a work unit to ensure compliance with organization and regulatory agency standards
  • 10% Monitors program budgets and expenditures

  • 10% Develops and facilitates trainings regarding scientific experimentation, technical procedures, and equipment operations to various audiences
