Carnegie Mellon University's department of Electrical and Computer Engineering is searching for an Academic Advisor at its Silicon Valley location. This is an excellent opportunity for someone who thrives in an exciting and meaningful work environment. You will provide crucial support to the department by providing quality academic program advising, counseling, and general student life assistance to M.S. students in ECE's Software Engineering program. This position is essential to the development and support of ECE's Silicon Valley program and students.

Responsibilities:

  • Monitors student progress throughout the program to ensure that students are on track to meet graduation requirements. Certifies students to graduate each semester.
  • Primary point of contact for the HUB/University Registrar's Office - management of student records, course schedules, and other processes/documentation as they relate to registration and student/academic records.
  • Provides academic program information to students regarding department, campus, and university course requirements, policies, opportunities, and resources.
  • Develops and delivers a required introductory course for incoming students each fall and spring.
  • Collaborates and coordinates student support with faculty advisors.
  • Liaises with the Office of International Education (OIE) to address international student issues and immigration requests for current students.
  • Participates in various department-, college-, and university-level meetings as appropriate to stay informed and share information and standard methodologies.
  • Tracks movement of MS students who are able to transfer between physical locations each semester to ensure that billing and program codes are accurate and that they have an advisor at their respective location.
  • Maintains and updates ECE academic and student resource-related web pages and other departmental resources.
  • Contributes to various report efforts for internal and external use: enrollment, admissions, BPPE, USN&WR, NSF, Annual reports, etc.
  • Delivers and/or participates in department and college events such as recruitment/outreach, Orientation, student information sessions (for new and continuing students), and alumni communication.
  • Assisting in planning for, and participating in, ECE's Diploma ceremonies in Pittsburgh each May.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree required
  • At least one year of academic advising experience preferred
  • A combination of education and relevant experience from which comparable knowledge is demonstrated may be considered.
