Position Description
Under supervision, designs, upgrades, inspects, and maintains the electrical distribution system in accordance with the National Electrical Code and National Electrical Safety Code standards to provide reliable electrical service to the customers in Horry and Georgetown counties in accordance with applicable company standards, policies, and procedures. Responsibilities also include helping maintain an accurate electronic model of the Geographic Information System (GIS).
Essential Tasks::
Works within clearly defined standard procedures to complete assignments and designs for small-scale projects, including commercial developments, residential subdivisions, and conversion projects with moderate supervision.Coordinates with other departments to complete designs and manage projects.Ensures proper phasing of transformers and proper load balancing on the distribution system.Designs system changes to maintain facilities in accordance with NESC/NEC, National/State/Local and other Santee Cooper approved standards, codes, and regulations. Initiates work requests and completes designs needed to implement Distribution Planning System Improvement Plans to meet future power/load requirements.Assists in determining facility equipment sizing of transformers and primary, secondary, and service wire.Obtains load data from customers to properly size these facilities. Designs rental and municipal lighting installations, and ensures compliance with company rental lighting program and customer needs.Utilizes computer systems (GIS, WMIS, CC&B, FIS, Microsoft Outlook, Word, Excel, Voltage Drop/Flicker, and Transformer Load Management) to complete work request designs and also to complete customer letters and correspondence. Performs all necessary steps to take work requests through their life cycle.Verifies maps for field accuracy to maintain graphical view of Distribution facilities on the GIS system.Works with senior technicians and supervision to assure all easements and agreements are received for projects prior to construction.Obtains encroachment permits from Corps of Engineers, DHEC, Counties, and S. C. Highway Department. Obtains easements and Customer-Owned Underground Facility Location Agreements as needed from residential and commercial customers.Performs field inspections of proposed projects for preliminary design.Stakes future facility locations and ensures crews locate facilities in accordance with work request specifications. Attends construction-oriented meetings throughout projects and coordinates with other utilities and/or the customer regarding any of their needs.

Engineering Technician C
Bachelor's Degree in a related field of study, Associate's Degree in a related field of study or High School Diploma/GED + 2 years experience required.
Compensation Information:
$21.55 - $26.90 (min. - mid.)
Engineering Technician B
Bachelor's Degree in a related field of study + 1 years experience, Associate's Degree in a related field of study + 3 years experience or High School Diploma/GED + 5 years experience required.
Compensation Information:
$26.45 - $33.05 (min. - mid.)
Engineering Technician A
Bachelor's Degree in a related field of study + 4 years experience, Associate's Degree in a related field of study + 6 years experience or High School Diploma/GED + 8 years experience required.
Compensation Information:
$32.65 - $40.80 (min. - mid.)
