Job Title: Manager, Engineering Pit Crew

Operating Company: Environmental Solutions Group - Heil Environmental

Location: Fort Payne, AL

Reports To: Senior Director of Engineering

Department: Engineering

POSITION SUMMARY:

The Pit Crew Manager's responsibility is to lead Advanced Prototyping activities executed through the Pit Crew. The Pit Crew rapidly and efficiently develops product prototypes from concepts and ideas with varying levels of detail. The Pit Crew team works collaboratively with other functions to ensure proper support to achieve on-time delivery of assigned projects.

The Pit Crew Manager will also be responsible for developing certain non-standard option content, address Voice of the Customer driven content and develop early-stage technologies to support the Technology Roadmap and Strategic Plan as outline in conjunction with Product Management.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS INCLUDE:

  • Hire and direct staff of team members to acquire necessary skills to meet scheduled commitments.
  • Lead and Develop the Pit crew team in support of talent development initiatives.
  • Provide Technical direction and guidance, as well as hands-on project management for all projects.
  • Ensure the optimal application of technology and resources to meet timelines and requirements.
  • Support Development Engineering Design Reviews and provide feedback during prototype construction, testing and field trials.
  • Direct the transition of Engineering designs from prototype builds through hand-off with manufacturing to improve new product launch success.
  • Lead VOC and non-standard option development, testing and hand off to development or sustaining engineering.
  • Lead Technology roadmap and strategic plan concepting and hand off to Development Engineering.
  • Direct team members and managers in prototype part procurement, manufacturing, inspection and storage.
  • Lead problem solving as required.
  • Up to 25% travel is required for this position.

JOB SPECIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Engineering with a minimum of 10 years of experience in product development of refuse vehicles or heavy equipment including welded structures and hydraulics. Electric vehicle experience is a plus.
  • At least 3 years management or supervisory experience leading new product development.
  • Strong knowledge of manufacturing equipment, processes, and manufacturability of designs.
  • Strong operational and project management skills.
  • Demonstrated team building and leadership skills.
  • Experience with new product launches, continuous improvement and directing strategic initiatives.
  • Requires capability of performing essential job functions in an established office environment under normal lighting and climate control tolerances, with some exposure to plant environments with the presence of dust, fumes, noise, and fluctuating temperatures due to lack of climate control.
