ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS



  1. Review inquiries for capability, least cost material selection and routing and completeness of quality testing and certification requirements.
  2. Review all orders along with the Production Planning for purchase order requirements, drawing requirements and specifications requirements to select the following for each order:

    • Proper chemistry and ingot size
    • Optimum melt practice
    • Optimum forge practice and ingot location to ensure adequate sonic and mechanical properties.
    • Proper post forge thermal practice
    • Optimum heat treatment including furnace restrictions, heating rates, temperatures, soak-times use of load thermocouples and cooling rates.
    • Proper routing through the manufacturing process
    • Specific test instructions (Mechanical and NDT)
    • Certification and marking instructions
    • Document the above in the form of DI's or SOP's.


  3. Follow all orders within respective product families to monitor and control processing, testing, and inspection.
  4. Troubleshoot and investigate all process problems and non-conforming material related to respective product families; Investigate customer claims related to respective product families.
  5. Perform investigations designed to improve yield, lower cost and improve overall product characteristics and recommend changes to accomplish these objectives.
  6. Collect historical data regarding yield, forge and heat treatment performance, mechanicals properties and scrap/rework risk.
  7. Provide customer technical service.
  8. Work with other Product Metallurgical Engineers in drafting generic DI's/SOP's applicable to all product families.
  9. Perform work in accordance with ECFG's AS9100/ISO 9001 Quality Management System.


QUALIFICATIONS EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE AND/OR TRAINING



  • Level I - Bachelor's degree in metallurgy or materials science; limited industry experience
