The Materials Management unit of the College of Veterinary Medicine provides all materials management and supply support for the college including receipt and shipping of freight, moving of equipment and furniture, special events set-up and tear-down, removal of surplus, scrap and other unwanted materials, tracking college assets, performing the annual inventory and operating the college mail room.

Essential Job Duties |
The Materials Management Manager oversees the day-to-day operations of a dynamic department serving the College of Veterinary Medicine (
CVM), including the Mail Room, Shipping and Receiving, and campus-wide freight and materials logistics. You will supervise five department staff and will report directly to the Site Director, while working closely with internal partners such as Inventory and State Property, and external entities including State Surplus. Your working knowledge of logistics, inventory control and compliance will be important in providing guidance and direction to the Assistant Manager to ensure seamless operations across all service areas.
Key Responsibilities:
- Oversee daily operations of Materials Management, including staff supervision, scheduling, record keeping, and budget tracking.
- Manage all CVM shipping and receiving functions, including the handling and documentation of freight such as live animals, hazardous materials, and large equipment.
- Supervise office and lab moves, including equipment and materials, across CVM and affiliated centers.
- Allocate staff and resources to support the CAMS annual inventory project and resolve discrepancies in coordination with the Site Director.
- Coordinate maintenance and use of department vehicles and equipment, including inspections, repairs, and associated documentation.
- Support communication and logistics with university departments (e.g., Surplus) and external vendors.
- Handle HR duties for department staff, including performance evaluations, timesheets, disciplinary actions, and work plans.

Qualifications
Minimum Experience/Education |
High school diploma or equivalency and two years of supervisory experience in the area of assignment; or an equivalent combination of training and experience. |
Other Required Qualifications |
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills to work effectively with staff, faculty, clients, and external partners.
- Demonstrated leadership and supervisory experience in logistics, shipping, or related fields.
- Competency with computers and logistics software for record keeping, scheduling, and inventory tracking.
- Knowledge and hands-on experience in shipping, receiving, and handling specialized materials (e.g., hazardous waste, live animals).
- Excellent organizational and time management skills to coordinate multiple priorities.
- A positive, service-oriented attitude and proactive problem-solving abilities.
- Attention to detail and accuracy in documentation and compliance procedures.
