Job Summary

This is a short-term, benefits-eligible, full-time one-year-only teaching opportunity for academic year 25/26 beginning August 2025 in Mesa Community College's AVMA-accredited Veterinary Technology Program. Coordinates and instructs lecture, laboratory, and Animal care courses. Maintains student academic support hours. Performs various Program administrative duties as assigned by the Program Director and/or Department Chair.

Essential Functions
  • Instructs students in classroom and lab settings. Laboratory components will include hands-on instruction utilizing live animals, to include, but not limited to, dogs, cats, rabbits, rodents, horses and goats.
  • Develops written syllabi/course outlines and course materials; assesses student knowledge of subject matter and prepares and grades exams; maintains academic support hours to assist and advise students.
  • Engages in the academic life of the college by participating in district-wide and campus committees and activities.
  • Develops and enhances knowledge of subject matter taught and individual training skills required to remain current with new trends and developments in the field and to promote the scholarship of teaching and learning through attendance at conferences, courses, seminars, and/or workshops.
  • Administrative duties: May include coordination of clinical internship program; coordination of student animal care assignments; participation on Institutional Animal Care and Use Committee. Assist the Program Director in assurance of Program compliance with federal regulations for animal care and use and assurance of Program compliance with national accreditation standards.


Minimum Qualifications

For Occupational Disciplines: The Occupational Teaching Fields require the following from an accredited college or university:
  • Five years of occupational experience in the field to be taught OR
  • Three years of occupational experience in the field to be taught and a Bachelor's degree or higher
  • A master's degree or higher in the teaching filed OR
  • A master's degree or higher in any field with 18 graduate credits in the teaching field


Desired Qualifications

A. Degree from an AVMA-accredited Veterinary Technology Program

B. Teaching experience in an AVMA-accredited Veterinary Technology Program

C. Community College teaching experience

D. Current license as a Certified Veterinary Technician in Arizona- AVMA Accreditation requirement

E. Experience with the coordination and training of Certified Veterinary Technicians in a clinical veterinary setting

F. Experience in the care and husbandry of a variety of animal species to include at least dogs, cats, rabbits, rodents, horses and goats

Special Working Conditions

Work areas include Classroom; laboratory; outdoor animal enclosures; Routine travel to off-campus teaching facilities and clinical internship sites.

Outdoor work with animals in inclement weather conditions. Exposure to animal bites, scratches, kicks; anesthetic gases; radiation; and hazardous chemicals. Will be required to work in an area of light to heavy noise levels daily.

May be required to work evening and weekend hours; may be required to lift objects up to 40 pounds.
