Position Description

We are currently recruiting to fill a Sr. Lab Technician position with our Modine Heating team in Buena Vista, VA. This position is responsible for maintaining robust testing processes, mentoring and supervising test technicians, and supporting the development and maintenance of the new Heating Laboratory and its equipment. This opportunity is a full-time, salaried position.

Key Responsibilities
  • Guide and support test technicians in advancing expertise in safe and effective testing practices, efficient and systematic troubleshooting, and ensuring measurements are recorded and analyzed accurately.
  • Establish calibration needs for test equipment, approve calibration certificates
  • Support the development of a new lab space for testing HVAC products. Coordinate details with MEP and construction resources to achieve specifications of lab space and equipment to test various Modine Heating products.
  • Ensure compliance of test systems with electrical safe work practices, hazard identification / remediation, and OSHA requirements in support of zero incident safety culture. Identify potential safety hazards and provide input into the remediation process, ensuring equipment functionality meets required specifications
  • Review and publish test data
  • Manage processes for lab inventory control, 5S, and spending
  • Understand and test in accordance with industry safety testing standards (UL, ETL, NFPA) applicable to the products, and assure alignment with internal safety, test and quality standards, product specifications and procedures.
  • Assist Quality and Engineering teams in internal and customer return product failure analysis.
Required Education & Qualifications

Education Requirements:

  • Associate Degree in a technical discipline plus 6-10 years of technical work experience, or 11+ years equivalent experience in a technical discipline.

Required Qualifications:

  • Experience in using test equipment for HVAC products.
  • Familiarity with instrumentation and calibration methods
  • Experience in performing and referencing industry standard test procedures
  • Preferred experience testing gas/electric HVAC equipment
  • Ability to read technical documents and drawings including electrical/wiring drawings, mechanical blueprints and other electrical and mechanical drawings.
  • Proven analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Computer skills for spreadsheet, word processing, data entry, file management, and reporting
  • Good verbal and written communication skills
