Overview

Under general supervision, coordinate all activities for packing products and materials for storage and shipment working directly with packing associates. Must be able to cover for temporary vacancies which occur from time to time on other shifts. Back up to Wrap and Band. Reinforcement of the team-oriented work philosophy is essential. Responsibilities executed in accordance with the mission, philosophy, and objectives of the company.



Responsibilities

    Observe packaging operations and inspect containers to verify conformance to specifications.
  • Start, adjust, and repair packaging machinery, or notify plant services.
  • Requisition containers and other supplies for delivery to workstations.
  • Establish or adjust work procedures to meet production schedules.
  • Alert team leader when deliveries have been completed for further assignments.
  • Recommend measures to improve production methods, equipment performance, and quality of products.
  • Suggest changes in working conditions and use of equipment to increase efficiency of shop, department, or work crew.
  • Confer with Supervisors to coordinate activities of individual departments.
  • Analyze and resolve work problems or assist workers in solving work problems.
  • Perform and coordinate inspection and quality control activities and perform hands-on work related to activities in the department.
  • Read and interpret basic blueprints and perform visual inspection of material to assure conformance to blueprints.
  • Visually inspect parts for obvious non-conformance, insuring piece count accuracy and proper identification of product.
  • Handle product in such a manner to minimize scratches and handling marks, wearing proper protective equipment as instructed.
  • Complete nonconformance reports for product that is defective or of poor quality and stage in nonconforming area. Identify and record scrap.
  • Provide aid in other departments as time permits or as needed.
  • Weigh containers and prepare shipping labels with proper information and identification including date, customer name, part number, job number, and total weight of carton and/or other data required by customer.


Qualifications

Education and/or Experience and Certifications and Licenses
High school diploma or general education degree (GED); and one to six months related experience and/or training in packing procedures; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Skills and Abilities
Ability to work effectively with tools and equipment such as utility blades, wrapper, automatic air stapler, scales, computer, and forklifts.
Possess adequate organizational skills necessary for record keeping.
Possess basic computer skills to include data entry to move effectively from screen to screen entering and/or retrieving work order detail, part numbers, part counts, etc.
Possess strong interpersonal skills, including the ability to interact effectively with diverse personalities and individuals at various levels within and outside the organization. Ability to establish and maintain effective working and public relations, advocating team concept and participative management style.
