The Director of Communications & Outreach for the New York State College of Ceramics
(NYSCC) and the Division of Performing Arts (PAD) at Alfred University is responsible for elevating the visibility and reputation of NYSCC and PAD-highlighting their people, programs, and platforms-to support strategic initiatives across the College and University.
The Director will understand the uniqueness of the programs and collaborate closely with the University's central communications office and internal teams to plan, develop, implement, and support communications and outreach efforts.
NYSCC includes the School of Art and Design, the Scholes Library, and engineering programs in Biomaterials, Materials Science, Glass Science, and Ceramic Engineering. Performing Arts includes four departments- Dance, Theatre, Music, and Performance Design & Technology.
Salary: $68,000-$72,000, annually
Responsibilities:
- Develop a deep understanding of the history, partnerships, and unique integration of NYSCC and PAD within Alfred University and SUNY
- Support events & programs by developing sustainable strategies for design of collateral materials
- Collaborate with faculty, staff, and offices such as Admissions, Advancement, Career Development Center, and Marketing and Communications
- Build cohesive and consistent messaging for PAD and NYSCC
- Manage photo and video documentation of events and all assets
- Mentor student interns in photography, videography, marketing, design, analytics, management, and event promotion
- Maintain and coordinate internal and external events calendars
- Create and distribute weekly and monthly Arts & Engineering highlights emails
- Supervise consistent posting of event information on campus and community platforms
- Attend regular meetings with the University MarCom team
- Develop and submit an annual NYSCC report and other collateral materials to the SUNY Chancellor's Office
- Maintain and optimize website content for all divisions, programs, galleries & museum, and the Institute for Electronic Arts (IEA); assist faculty with web content using the AU templates, adhering to branding and ADA standards
- Represent NYSCC at SUNY and external events as needed
- Collaborate on initiatives to boost enrollment, visibility, and national rankings
- Review and edit all marketing materials to ensure alignment with tone, style, and messaging priorities
- Other duties as assigned
Qualifications & Competencies:
- Master's degree preferred
- At least 5 years of experience in Marketing, Communications, and/or Public Relations preferred
- Strong understanding of communications, media, and marketing practices, including web and digital communications strategies
- Exceptional written, verbal, and presentation skills with a strong command of grammar, spelling, and usage
- Ability to independently draft professional correspondence
- Excellent interpersonal, consultative, and persuasive communication skills
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office, Adobe Suite, and digital programs to support design and efficiencies
- Experience with list segmentation, campaign development, and analytics
- Availability to work occasional evenings or weekends for events and deadlines
