About the Role:

With continuous guidance and on-the-job training, learns and performs daily operations to maintain an organized high quality animal care facility that complies with all appropriate guidelines.

Your Contributions (include, but are not limited to):
  • Performs the daily care of research animals for experimental purpose. Provides quality support in the animal facility cage wash areas. Collects dirty cages and equipment, removes bedding and food, completes cage pre-wash and sanitation, runs cage washer, receives and unpacks supplies, stocks supplies, maintains appropriate inventory of clean cages, supplies, and autoclaves cages and water.

  • Changes animal rooms mice and rats.

  • Receives and unpacks animals, specifically to include rats and mice.

  • Completes morning facility checks in animal and procedure rooms.

  • Stocks and maintains supplies in animal and procedure rooms.

  • Coordinates carcass disposal.

  • Works clean side wash room.

  • Unload and fill cages with bedding.

  • Fills glass water bottles.

  • Autoclaves cages, water bottles, and surgical supplies.

  • Receives feed and bedding be able to lift 50 pounds.

  • Redistributes cages and water bottles to hallways and animal rooms.

  • Works dirty side wash room.

  • Adheres to all facility protocols.

  • Provide sanitation and maintenance services including general cleaning and facility upkeep, equipment and caging maintenance, cleaning special areas.

  • Maintains records and documentation according to standards appropriate for the animal facility.

  • Performs work practices in a safe manner and consistently promote safety in the animal facility.

  • Performs additional duties as assigned.

  • Provides quality husbandry opportunities support.

  • Follows ARU guidelines.

  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Requirements:
  • High School Diploma / AALAS Certification/ Associates degree and 2+ years of experience in a science and/or vivarium environment. Experience in general sanitation practices and use of equipment such as automatic cage washer and autoclave preferred. Prior experience in inventory and receiving preferred

  • Working knowledge of vivarium operations

  • Working knowledge of general sanitation practices and use of equipment such as automatic cage washer and autoclave preferred

  • Ability to track / order inventory and process received goods preferred

  • Ability to transport equipment and supplies throughout facility

  • Ability to work inside a controlled environment under strict atmospheric, temperature and humidity standardized parameters

  • May necessitate working flexible hours outside the normal times including weekend and Holidays

  • Ability to work in a collaborative, team environment

  • No known animal or dust allergies

  • Able to move around large metal racks and caging

  • Uses established skills to perform a range of daily operations

  • Applies understanding of company policies and procedures to complete assigned tasks

  • Understands how own area contributes to the achievement of objectives

  • Acute observation skills and attention to detail

The hourly rate we reasonably expect to pay is $22.96-$33.28. Individual pay decisions depend on various factors, such as primary work location, complexity and responsibility of role, job duties/requirements, and relevant experience and skills. In addition, this position offers an annual bonus with a target of 15% of the earned base salary and eligibility to participate in our equity based long term incentive program. Benefits offered include a retirement savings plan (with company match), paid vacation, holiday and personal days, paid caregiver/parental and medical leave, and health benefits to include medical, prescription drug, dental and vision coverage in accordance with the terms and conditions of the applicable plans.
