Location: Remote State Date: May/June 2025 Duration:4-6 Months; Flexible hours. ***** NOTE: This is an unpaid opportunity. ******* ABOUT US:The International Rescue Committee (IRC) responds to the world's worst humanitarian crises and helps people to survive and rebuild their lives. ABOUT THE OPPORTUNITY: The IRC in Los Angeles's Employment Training Panel provides job readiness training, digital literacy, and financial literacy to newcomers and current clients that hold work authorizations in search of job opportunities. The Employment Training Panel aims to help refugees achieve self-sufficiency through paid employment and retain employment for more than 90 days (or a minimum of 500 work hours). The Employment Training Panel volunteer will assist the Workforce Literacy Program Specialist with the management of the Employment Training Panel, as well as assist clients to prepare for and secure their first job in the U.S on a 1:1 basis. RESPONSIBILITIES: Volunteers will assist Employment Training Panel clients in securing their first job in the U.S. This includes one-on-one coaching for resume creation, cover letter creation, job application and interview preparation assistance, employee follow-up, and documentation of self-sufficiency. They will also assist in finding jobs for clients in Greater Los Angeles (LA/OC/Riverside), and assist in document translation and interpretation between the Workforce Literacy Program Specialist and clients with the following primary languages: Spanish, Russian/Ukrainian, Armenian, and Farsi. OPPORTUNITY OUTCOMES: Volunteer will gain experience in individual coaching techniques to engage and empower clients. Volunteer will gain experience in effective outreach strategies to help clients find and retain a job. Volunteer will learn to create effective professional and job level specific resumes and cover letters to benefit professional development. Volunteer will grow knowledge in PowerPoint creation and lesson planning. Volunteer will learn to communicate effectively with clients across cultures. REQUIREMENTS: Language Requirement: English/Armenian, English/Russian/Ukrainian, English/Spanish, or English/Farsi Excellent communication and writing skills, including cross-cultural communication skills Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite and Google Suite Some experience in tutoring or coaching with a focus on employment services (resume building, cover letters, mock interviews, job search, and job applications) Self-motivated and able to work independently and manage multiple tasks Excellent organizational skills with a high level of attention and computer literacy How to apply: Attend an informational session.
