Position Summary

The Predictive Maintenance (PdM) Technician is responsible for providing PdM technology data collection and analysis for CPS Energy Power Generation units. PdM technologies includes, but not limited to, Vibration Analysis, Lubrication Analysis, Infrared Thermography, Ultrasonics, and Dynamic and Static Motor Current Analysis. The PdM Technician coordinates activities and schedules work as necessary, as well as prepare the necessary reports and required assessments. The PdM Technician performs and oversees specific projects and programs as assigned. The PdM Technician is also expected to be a technical resource in the troubleshooting of mechanical and electrical equipment. The PdM Technician is responsible for 1) coordinates PdM activities and schedules work as necessary; 2) collecting and analyzing PdM data; 3) recommend corrective/preventative solutions and 4) preparing the necessary technical reports within the guidance of the CPS Energy Power Generation Operating Procedures. The Technician will be accountable for ensuring compliance with all CPS Energy, and other applicable safety standards.

Tasks and Responsibilities

  • Participates with program setup as required, equipment walk down and information gathering. Responsible for assisting in the building and maintaining of technology databases.
  • Support the department with database auditing, metrics and reporting, including but not limited to creating SAP work order notifications for at-risk equipment, tracks repairs to completion, and records cost avoidance estimates.
  • Contributes to maintain/update technology databases to existing CPS Energy information/standards and ensures that all reports are properly filed. Assisting and reporting Nuisance Alarms and assisting in the Management of Change Process.
  • Bolsters the overall safety of the work environment by ensuring compliance with CPS Energy and other applicable standards. Performs Behavioral Safety Observations as needed.
  • Supports with training/mentoring of new employees, assist in training/mentoring customers, and conveying obtained knowledge from seminar/training sessions.
  • Assumes coordination and scheduling activities as required in the following areas: Management of the PdM Technology activities for the assigned site(s). Responsible for schedule compliance and route adherence. Single point of contact on specific technology related issues
  • Collect, and analyzing data trends in accordance with CPS Energy standards utilizing portable route-based data collectors and/or permanent mounted data acquisition systems. Technologies include but not limited to vibration analysis, lube oil analysis, online and offline motor current analysis, infrared thermography, ultrasonic.
  • Reports results in clear concise manner following all CPS Energy procedures for content.
  • Assembles reports of as-found conditions for customers to recommend corrective actions.
  • Supports to maintain accuracy and timeliness of all internal and external communications and reporting.
  • Performs special projects as assigned.
  • Balances rotating equipment at CPS Energy sites as well as on the repair test floor in the shop.
  • Troubleshoots non-complex mechanical issues and recommend solutions.
  • Ensures that work area is clean, secure, and well maintained.
  • Utilizes developmental knowledge to exercise management skills for leadership of projects and demonstrates hands-on skills as needed.
  • Aids in managing and supervising PdM contract resources.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Minimum Skills
Minimum Knowledge and Abilities
Valid Class C Texas Driver's License.
Intermediate level to general industrial work experience in utility industry or public sector.
Vibration Analyst ISO 18436.2 Category II certification or equivalent; or equivalent work experience and the ability to obtain certification within 18 months.
Able and willing to work in an on-call situations and off shifts as required by management.
Preferred Qualifications

  • Associate of Applied Science Degree or Technical Degree is preferred.
  • Vibration Institute's Analyst ISO 18436.2 III Certification Program
  • General working knowledge of routine and advanced data acquisition techniques. Working knowledge of other condition monitoring technologies.
  • General knowledge of machinery fundamentals, including pumps, motors, gearboxes, blowers, compressors, switchgear etc. Detailed knowledge of general mechanical fundamentals, such as fits and tolerances. .
  • Good communication skills, both oral and written.
  • Proficient computer skills, including but not limited to Windows, Word, and Excel.
  • Solid analytical and problem-solving abilities.
  • Able to work well independently.

Working Environment
Work is performed indoors and outdoors, operating computer, manual dexterity, talking, hearing, repetitive motion. Use of personal computing equipment, telephone, multi-functioning printer and calculator.
Employee may potentially be exposed to hazardous chemicals, wet or humid conditions, outdoor weather, noisy and dusty environment. Ability to travel to and from meetings, training sessions or other business related events.
Physical Demands
Exerting up to 50 pounds of force occasionally with or without accommodation, and/or up to 20 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects.
