Position Summary
The IT Professional Assistant will be responsible for the prescription of technical solutions, technology support, training delivery, and IT project management for departments and units on the UGA Griffin Campus as well as assigned field office/research locations in multiple GA counties in the surrounding area. They are also a valuable member of the CAES Office of Information Technology ( OIT) Griffin Campus Operations Team. The employee is based on the UGA Griffin Campus and reports to the OIT IT Assistant Director for Griffin Campus Operations. This is a specialized, highly responsible employee with a broad understanding of information technology in the modern enterprise. This IT professional is the local IT expert for the units and departments it serves having the ability to prescribe, configure, secure, deploy, and support software, hardware resources, server and storage systems, audiovisual solutions and networking infrastructure. The incumbent will strategically evaluate and prescribe technological solutions necessary to meet the operational needs of the department while adhering to the requirements of existing laws, standards, and policies. Tactically, the professional in this position will triage technological issues; reconcile competing priorities, communicate effectively; demonstrate exceptional customer service; and exhibit the capacity to independently research, assess, and adapt to changing technologies.

  • Consult with clientele to assess operational requirements for technology systems and services, evaluate options for addressing the client's needs and recommend appropriate solutions.
  • Establish and nurture vendor relationships and partner with appropriate UGA entities and local/county governments as needed to best facilitate the evaluation, specification, procurement and deployment of information technology resources and solutions.
  • Assist the organization in performing life-cycle management, inventory control and the surplus of information technology resources

  • Provide direct, timely, hands-on technology support to the client including the diagnosis and resolution of issues with standalone or interconnected hardware, software, peripherals, and network devices.

    • This includes support and maintenance of some legacy systems supporting laboratory instrumentation.

  • Manage all aspects of the data networks used by assigned off-campus facilities (including UGA Extension Offices).

    • This work includes coordinating with contractors, vendors and others in planning, designing, implementing, inspecting and testing networks in new or renovated facilities; procurement, configuration, deployment and management of network devices; assessment and recommendation of local Internet Service Provider (ISP) vendors; and the creation and management of user accounts and user groups.

    • Ensure staff have appropriate and consistent access to UGA IT resources and information systems
    • Assist in the planning, development, organization and delivery of training events/programs
    • Make recommendations for IT solutions and implementation strategies appropriate for meeting the goals and objectives of projects, grants and/or other initiatives
