Job Description
A Physician Assistant in Occupational Health is a licensed medical professional who specializes in evaluating and treating work-related injuries and illnesses, conducting pre-employment physicals, managing employee health records, providing health education, and collaborating with employers to promote workplace safety, all under the supervision of an occupational medicine physician; their key responsibilities include performing comprehensive medical assessments, ordering diagnostic tests, diagnosing conditions, initiating treatment plans, managing workers' compensation cases, and advocating for employee health and safety within the workplace.
Key Responsibilities:
Patient Assessment and Treatment:
- Conduct pre-employment physical examinations, including medical history review, physical exams, and laboratory tests.
- Evaluate and treat work-related injuries and illnesses, including musculoskeletal disorders, exposure-related illnesses, and occupational diseases.
- Diagnose and manage minor acute illnesses and injuries.
- Order and interpret diagnostic tests like blood work, X-rays, and other imaging studies.
- Initiate treatment plans including medication management, physical therapy referrals, and follow-up appointments.
Workers' Compensation Management:
- Evaluate and document work-related injuries for workers' compensation claims.
- Manage caseloads of workers' compensation patients, including communication with employers, insurance companies, and legal representatives.
- Monitor patient progress and facilitate return-to-work plans.
Health Promotion and Education:
- Provide health education and counseling to employees on workplace safety, ergonomics, and preventive health practices.
- Conduct health screenings and immunizations as needed.
- Develop and implement employee health programs, including wellness initiatives.
Administrative Duties:
- Maintain comprehensive medical records for employees, adhering to confidentiality regulations
- Prepare reports and documentation for workers' compensation claims
- Collaborate with other healthcare professionals and safety personnel to address workplace health concerns
- Participate in safety meetings and committees to promote workplace health and safety
Required Qualifications:
- Graduation from an accredited Physician Assistant program
- Current Physician Assistant license and certification
- Experience in Occupational Medicine preferred
- Strong clinical skills in diagnosis and treatment of common medical conditions
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to interact with patients, employers, and other healthcare providers
- Knowledge of occupational health regulations and workers' compensation laws
Shift/Hours:
630am to 2pm, Tuesday to Friday, with no weekends or holidays.
