Position Overview
Primary Purpose of the Position |
Winston-Salem State University, School of Health Sciences seeks adjunct instructors for appointments in the Bachelor of Healthcare Management to teach the following online courses for Summer 1 2024-205 academic term:
Health Information Management Course
This course introduces students to the basics of health information management. It identifies the roles and responsibilities of Health Information professionals, the content of the health care record: administrative data e.g., billing, reimbursement, and consent forms and clinical data i.e., that information provided by the health care provider. Health information management nomenclature and classification systems also will be addressed.
Population Health Course
This course addresses how health professionals take action to solve population health problems. Students will be introduced to and learn to apply principles of epidemiology, research design, and determinants of health needed to support population-based and community health assessment and evaluation. They will explore how health outcomes for populations are influenced by social, economic, environmental, behavioral and political factors. This course addresses intervention strategies that can be used at the population level to change health behaviors and improve health for groups and communities. Special emphasis will be on identification and stratification of populations at risk; evidence-based care, care coordination, patient and community engagement, and data analytics and reporting of outcomes. Key themes of interprofessional communication, collaboration, leadership, and professionalism will be woven throughout content. |

Healthcare management is a growing, diverse field of study that incorporates business managerial functions in healthcare and in healthcare related environments. The profession offers flexibility and the potential for advancement with additional experience and further education. As important, this field of study offers the chance for graduates to have a positive influence on the healthcare of individuals and communities. Graduates have opportunities to work at entry-level positions in the following settings: assisted-living facilities, community and government agencies, health insurance companies, hospital departments, and long term care facilities. |

- Adequately prepare all course materials and lessons for the healthcare management course.
- Provide students with clear course expectations, evaluations, timelines, and an approved syllabus.
- Provide engaging and relevant assignments for students that demonstrate learning outcomes.
- Suitably challenge, engage, serve, and communicate with students to encourage participation and learning while maintaining mutual value and respect.
- Complete grade books, mid-term and final grade submission, learning assessments, and final exam assessments on a timely basis,
- Respond to student questions promptly.
- Ensure course and program learning outcomes are delivered as defined by the syllabus.
