Position Details:

The start date is September 8, 2025, and will run through the academic year, concluding in May with the option of extending if needed to complete their second treatment cycle.

Community-based social work interns provide small group treatment, individual treatment, mental health screening, school-based consultation, caregiver and educator workshops, and preventative classroom-based lessons.

All interventions are delivered directly in school and/or community settings, and on Fridays interns, reporting to the Clinical Manager, attend weekly supervision and training seminars during dedicated administrative time at the Child Mind Institute's East 50th Street location or by a virtual meeting platform

You Will:

Under the guidance of a licensed social worker, interns will have the following learning opportunities:

  • Attend training in the following: delivery of direct evidence-based interventions (anxiety, trauma, behavior, and/or mood in the school setting), educator and/or caregiver workshops, and weekly seminars and supervision
  • Provide individual and/or group evidence-based therapy for students
  • Gain experience working with students who have either experienced traumatic events, exhibit behavioral issues and/or mood dysregulation
  • Teach preventative mental health strategies in K-12 classrooms
  • Observe and assess children presenting with mental health issues in the school setting
  • Consult with school staff and school-based mental health professionals on intervention implementation
  • Conduct in-classroom coaching and/or consultation of educators and school staff on strategies to promote school success
  • Other internship-related tasks as assigned by clinical supervisor

You Have:

  • Upon acceptance, and before starting the internship, the social work intern must submit a statement from the intern's school attesting that the intern is a student whose course of instruction leads to a degree, diploma, or certificate, or who is completing residence requirements for a degree.
  • Current enrollment in an accredited, master's degree program in social work - accelerated or second year student applications only
