The Position

This position provides face-to-face and virtual tutorial assistance to students in a wide variety of mathematics and science courses. This position also works with department staff to ensure the appropriate level of service is provided to all students.

Classification: Non-Affiliated Hourly

Staff Duration: Part Time 12 months (20 or fewer hours per week)


What You Will Do

1. Provides students with face-to-face and virtual tutorial assistance in mathematics and science, content specific study skills and best practices; develops resources; conducts class visits, and creates and facilitates workshops as requested.
2. Maintains records of each tutoring session and updates the log of tutoring sessions and related information for accuracy; provides written reports as well as data reports regarding Center activities as assigned.
3. Meets regularly with designated management in Tutoring Center to ensure the appropriate level of services are offered; documents and reports student or personnel issues to designated management in a timely manner.
4. Assists in training and mentoring of other part-time, peer, and reservist tutors.
5. Attends training and professional development sessions as required and maintains competency in training materials provided by the Tutoring Center and other College staff.
6. Maintains appropriate competency in content areas and contemporary computer literacy and technology.
7. Helps monitor equipment (hardware & software) and reports issues to designated management in a timely manner.
8. Answer phones, greets, and assists visitors, and performs routine clerical tasks.
9. Related projects and initiatives as assigned.


The Successful Candidate Must Have

1. Associates degree in a field(s) related to the content identified in the posting.
2. Prior tutoring experience, preferably in higher education.
3. Strong organizational and communication skills.
4. Demonstrated proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite, specifically Word, Excel and Outlook to prepare correspondences, reports and maintain records.
5. Self-directed and motivated with the ability to work a combination of remote and/or onsite face-to-face tutoring sessions as assigned.


Even Better If You Have

1. Prior experience using student database systems such as Colleague.
2. Demonstrated experience working with underserved populations.
3. TEFL or TESOL Certification.
4. Bilingual or multilingual.
