As a Warehouse/Material Inventory Control Tech, Here's What You'll Do:

This position is responsible for the daily setup, transport, and inventory control of material needed for repair of railcars. Additionally, it is responsible for proper identification, sorting, loading/unloading, and transportation to and/or from material storage areas to various locations as required.

Role and Responsibilities:



  • Learn and adhere to all CFRS safety procedures.
  • Learn the basic flow and logistics of the railroad industry and repair business.
  • Keep the work area in a clean and orderly manner so as to comply with CFRS, OSHA, and environmental rules and regulations.
  • Follow written and verbal directions and have basic math, reading, and writing skills while effectively working in a team environment, including but not limited to BRC work order pick sheet and execution without instructional intervention.
  • Thorough understanding of railcar components.
  • Inspect the quality of delivered material for conformity, unload deliveries, verify the count and condition, complete sign-off paperwork, and mark the material.
  • Log all materials received and/or dispersed.
  • Make use of inventory pick lists to identify parts required and kit as necessary for delivery.
  • Organize and disperse material to work areas from the bill of material, pick lists, drawings, work orders, or other instructions.
  • Deliver material required for the repair of railcars to the designated work areas.
  • Unload or load materials at the designated area via lift truck and/or crane.
  • Stack and sort material at the work area to maintain a neat and orderly condition.
  • Perform general cleaning material storage areas as necessary.
  • Set up and operate various hand and power tools.
  • Basic understanding of fabrication and cutting equipment such as, but not limited to: drill press, punch, brake press, sheer and oxy-fuel operation.
  • Possess documented training to set up and operate or drive equipment such as, but not limited to, a forklift, man lift, crane, backhoe, skid loader, hoist, or hydraulic boom.
  • Administer and ensure quality and safety procedures are being adhered to.
  • Lead the overall daily operation of the warehouse department, including shipping, receiving, returns, transfers, and disbursement of all material and supplies.
  • Maintain an adequate quantity of all necessary material and supplies required to operate the repair facility in keeping with safety, quality, productivity, cost and economic earnings.
  • Perform site physical inventories, counts, and variances in conjunction with CFRS Supervision.
  • Successfully complete this positions "Education/Formal Training" requirements



Here's What it Will Take to be Successful in this Role:



  • High school diploma or General Education Degree (GED) is preferred but not required.
  • Knowledge of computer applications including, but not limited to, Microsoft Office suite, and Oracle.
  • Basic understanding of QA material.
  • Participate in training; TBD by management.


Skills

Language skills: Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations in the English language.

Mathematical skills: Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.

Reasoning skills: Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form. Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations

Physical Demands

Work assignments involve standing, stooping, bending, kneeling, reaching, climbing, crawling, and crouching in strained and awkward positions for prolonged periods of time at various heights up to 20 feet. Uses hands, legs, and arms to climb vertical ladders to staging or suspended platforms. Lifts, carries, and sets up equipment and components that weigh up to 50 lbs. Employees must be medically certified to wear a respirator, as well as be able to wear respirators for prolonged periods of time.

Working Conditions

Work will be performed outdoors and indoors in all types of weather, on and around heavy equipment. The employee is regularly exposed to wet and/or humid conditions, moving mechanical parts, fumes or airborne particles, and outside weather conditions. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate to loud. May be required to work overtime and/or varied shifts to meet the demands of the business.
