Under the direction of the Department Chair, Department Administrator, Vice Chairs, or their designees, the Communications/Social Media Specialist develops and executes department-wide online and print communications strategies. This role is responsible for creating content, organizing information to facilitate effective communication across, and managing the department's web design and social media presence.

I. Major Responsibilities:

1. Internal and External Communications
* Develop and manage department-wide newsletters and communication channels to ensure consistent messaging.
* Draft, edit, and distribute content while proactively engaging with divisions for relevant updates.
2. Content Development and Editorial Oversight
* Serve as the editor for department communications, overseeing copywriting, editing, production, and distribution.
* Ensure all content aligns with the department's branding, tone, and strategic objectives.
3. Media and Public Relations Support
* Collaborate with the corporate Public Relations Department to develop press releases and visibility campaigns.
* Provide media support when necessary to enhance department's public presence.
4. Website and Intranet Management
* Design, maintain, and enhance the department's public-facing website and internal intranet portal.
* Work closely with the Information Systems web development team to implement updates and improvement.
5. Social Media Strategy and Management
* Develop and execute a cohesive social media strategy to engage faculty, staff, alumni, and the public.
* Manage daily operations of social media platforms, including Facebook, Twitter, YouTube, and LinkedIn.
* Monitor performance metrics, analyze engagement data, and adjust strategies for maximum impact.
* Develop, maintain, and enforce web policies in collaboration with departmental leadership.
6. Presentation and Multimedia Development
* Create visually compelling presentations for departmental leadership.
* Utilize Microsoft PowerPoint, Visio, and other multimedia tools to enhance reports and communication materials.
7. Compliance
* Ensure all communications align with departmental policies, branding guidelines, and regulatory requirements.
8. Standard Staffing Level Responsibilities
* Complies with established departmental policies, procedures and objectives.
* Attends variety of meetings, conferences, seminars as required or directed.
* Demonstrates use of Quality Improvement in daily operations.
* Complies with all health and safety regulations and requirements.
* Respects diverse views and approaches, and contributes in maintaining an environment of professionalism, tolerance, civility and acceptance toward all employees, patients and visitors.
* Maintains, regular, reliable, and predictable attendance.
* Performs other similar and related duties as required or directed.

II. Position Qualifications:

License/Certification/Education:
Required:
1. Bachelor's degree in Business Administration, Communications, Marketing, or a related field.
Preferred:
1. Certifications in Web Design, Digital Marketing, or Social Media Management.
Experience/Skill:
Required:
1. Minimum of 2 years of experience in communications, marketing, or social media management.
2. Proven ability to build and manage social media platforms for organizations.
3. Strong writing, editing, and proofreading skills.
4. Proficiency in website content management and design.
5. Excellent organizational, interpersonal skills, and project management skills.
6. Ability to manage multiple projects and meet deadlines.

Preferred:
1. Experience in healthcare communications or marketing.
2. Knowledge of HTML, WordPress, or other content management systems.
3. Familiarity with Adobe Creative Suite, Canva, or other design tools.

Unless certification, licensure or registration is required, an equivalent combination of education and experience which provides proficiency in the areas of responsibility listed in this description may be substituted for the above requirements.
