Essential Job Duties |
The primary purpose of this position is to assist with field and laboratory activities that support ongoing research and Extension activities in the Water Quality lab. The technician will help staff and graduate students prepare for fieldwork, assist with soil and water sample collection, and support basic sample processing in the lab (e.g., labeling, filtration, and storage). The technician will also contribute to general lab organization, cleaning, and preparation of supplies and reagents.
This is a time-limited position expected to conclude by June 30, 2025. |

- Ability to follow detailed protocols and standard operating procedures for field and laboratory tasks
- Experience with basic laboratory practices, including labeling, cleaning, and safe handling of chemicals and biological samples
- Ability to work outdoors in varying weather conditions and navigate uneven terrain during fieldwork
- Ability to lift and carry equipment and supplies up to 50 lbs
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail for maintaining records and sample tracking
- Basic computer skills, including experience with spreadsheets, data entry, and file management
- Effective written and verbal communication skills
- Ability to work both independently and as part of a team

Preferred Years Experience, Skills, Training, Education |
- Bachelors degree. Some experience in laboratory or fieldwork settings through coursework, employment, or internships
- One or more years of experience working in a laboratory or field-based research setting
- Experience with water and soil sampling protocols
- Familiarity with sample filtration, preservation, and chain-of-custody procedures
- Experience assisting with Extension events, outreach, or science communication
- Experience operating handheld GPS devices, data loggers, or environmental sensors
- Basic familiarity with Microsoft Office and data management software
- Familiarity with safety protocols and best practices for laboratory and fieldwork
