SUMMARY: The VP Business Banking is responsible for executing the credit union's strategies for the commercial department under the general direction of the Chief Lending Officer; planning, directing, supervising and coordinating all Credit Union Member Commercial Lending and cash management services. Duties comprise the supervision of day-to-day activities and implementation of applicable credit union policies and procedures in accordance with approved plans, programs, and objectives. Departmental responsibilities include the origination of new commercial loans; including: the underwriting, funding, settlement and servicing. This position has the additional responsibilities of hardware/software development, profitability, research and development of new commercial lending and deposit products and services, team leadership and employee development. The VP Business Banking will also assist in strategic planning and formulate & implement policies and business plans to meet credit union goals.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
* Leadership: Directly oversees the leadership of employees in the Business Banking Department who originate, underwrite, fund, close, and service member commercial loan or deposit accounts. Carries out leadership responsibilities in accordance with the organization's policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities in staffing for excellence include interviewing, hiring, and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance, rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems; and developing career paths and training for the professional development and promotion of employees within the credit union. Directs and manages all department activities to ensure a trained, motivated, professional staff capable of selling services to members and potential members and resolving account problems through coordination with other departments. The position will also modify and adapt existing procedures to meet unusual requirements and research and make recommendations for new products, services or procedures to meet the needs of the membership. Responsible for meeting corporate goals as assigned. Anticipate and/or investigate causes for inadequate results and take corrective action within the limits of Credit Union policy.
* Business Planning: Comprehends Credit Union strategic goals and assists in development of the strategic plan as requested. Sets aligned business plan for area of responsibility, assembles talent needed to carry out the plan, develops tactics to execute in support of the plan, and measures performance against the plan. Implements or recommends changes in order to meet the corporate goals.
* Centralized Commercial Lending: Responsible for overall commercial lending to ensure established goals of the department are met. Ensure high-quality, efficient, prompt, and professional services are provided in compliance with policies, procedures and within NCUA regulations, and all applicable laws. Routinely reviews and communicates regulation and required changes to appropriate personnel to ensure self and staff remain current in functional practices and trends. Regularly meets with Management team to discuss current activities; identify and respond to trends; identify people, product or process enhancements; and initiate corrective action, such as: status of approved loans, delinquency trends, cross-selling of lending products, sales, etc.
* Sales, Service, and Productivity: Set goals and implement policies and procedures to develop and reinforce a sales and service culture. Research, develop, implement, maintain and expand sales, service and productivity standards and goals. Motivate staff to meet standards and goals. Coordinate lending activities with other credit union departments not under direct control, i.e., branch operations, marketing, accounts control, retail lending, MSC, IT, etc. to ensure the success of the credit union's lending programs.
* Loan Responsibilities: Review loan applications and associated work to provide quality control and adherence to underwriting policy. Approve loan applications to provide timely member service. Work with staff to answer any questions and provide direction regarding lending products, servicing or underwriting. Implement and ensure compliance with Credit Union policies, procedures and regulations.
* System Responsibilities: Develops Credit Union policies and procedures to ensure compliance with federal regulations regarding financial institutions, develops and ensures the security and growth of overall operations. Provides efficient and responsive operations for the membership. Develops and implements new programs and projects for the improvement of department operations. Researches and plans for future requirements to provide convenient member services. Responsible for continuously moving the department to more efficient technologies.
* Profitability: Responsible for the overall profitability of the commercial lending area based on planned results. Works with Executive Management Team to evaluate all areas that will impact profitability. Works with accounting to ensure proper allocations of accepted methodology. Works with marketing to research and analyze market potential. Compiles data and presents recommendations to Executive Management Team. Controls and contains cost within cost center budgets. Develops and maintains policies and procedures to ensure the control of charge-off and delinquency rates on commercial products.
* Research and Development of New Products and Services: Researches new concepts in business and marketing and makes appropriate recommendations. Interfaces with commercial lending personnel to develop new products and service within operations area. Evaluate product mix and recommend additions or modifications to increase earnings in the long run and increase competitive advantage.
* Community Development: Develops and maintains relationships with realtors, brokers and other real estate entities to directly promote the Credit Union's commercial products and services. Maintains an active role in community affairs so as to improve the Credit Union's visibility in the area. Seeks opportunities to share credit union commercial products and education via community outreach programs.
* Additional General Responsibilities: Perform other related duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Education: Equivalent to a Bachelor's Degree in Business Administration, Management, Finance or other related field. Formal commercial loan sales and underwriting training. Equivalent experience may be substituted.
Experience: Five to seven years of commercial relationship management sales experience in a financial institution. Ten to fifteen years of substantial commercial lending background to include commercial loan underwriting.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: Comprehensive knowledge of commercial lending operations, laws and regulations. Proven ability to perform business planning and execute according to said plan, making course corrections as needed. Proven ability to expand market share. High communication skills (verbal and written) in order to effectively convey thoughts and concepts to a variety of audiences and recipients.
Strong human relations skills, recognizing the unique value, perspective and ideas of each individual in order to create a workplace which values diversity and inclusion. Flexibility and creativity needed to aid in designing new products and services or for product enhancement. Requires the ability to efficiently handle multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment, with detail and results orientation; ability to lead independently as well as collaborate across functions in order to foster teamwork across the credit union. Knowledgeable of financial institution operations, operating systems, marketing of new products and services, and business technological advances in order to remain competitive. Must be proficient in Microsoft applications and able to quickly learn new applications.

Compensation information: Offers are based on experience and education.
$135,969.60 - $169,956.80 annually
