Job Overview:

This system role will focus on system-wide food security initiatives and healthy food access under the RWJBH Community Health Project, and Social Impact and Community investment (SICI). This director s role will assist with oversite of key projects for the system in the food security work for Social Impact and Community Health as well as specific food access programming at Newark Beth Israel Medical Center. This role operates under the direction of SVP Social Impact and Community Investment, RWJBarnabas Health. This is a grant-funded position until 2025 year-end, strong possibility of future extensions.

NBIMC based programs include managing the staff of the Beth Greenhouse and SNAP/WIC/SFMNP eligible Beth Greenhouse Farmers Market, the Women s Wellness Food Farmacy and assistance in the development of nutrition and health education at the Rev. Dr. Ronald B. Christian Community Health and Wellness Center at Newark Beth Israel Medical Center. The role will also assist in the operations and management of the system-wide food security and food access initiatives including the Common Market produce distributions to community partners for each facility, the additional current Food Farmacies in Newark, Jersey City and New Brunswick. The role will also assist in the operations of the recently launched SNAP Navigator program which include assisting in the management of a staff of 12 navigators placed at each acute care hospital site. This role will also assist in the operational oversite of the up-coming Food Hub Cooperative in Newark scheduled to launch in August 2025 as well as 3-4 additional Food Farmacies scheduled to open in 2025 -2026 with plans to continue expansion through out the system.

Qualifications:

Required:

  • Bachelors Degree in Nutrition and Dietetics or Public Health, Registered Dietitian
  • Experience in public health and community programming addressing the social determinants of health
  • Strong operational and communication skills.
  • Collaborative and team work ethic

Preferred:

  • Masters Degree

Essential Functions:

Responsibilities for the role at NBIMC and system SICI include:

Program operations management:

  • Communication and coordination with Community Health and SICI leaders in each facility
  • Assist corporate SVP of Social Impact on current Food access programming
  • Distribution of corporate Common Market Food Box program to all facilities SICI leaders for local distribution
  • Assists SVP in operations of SNAP Navigator program and staff of 12 navigator and 2 managers
  • Works closely with hiring process, scheduling, training, data collection and reporting and other duties as needed
    • Food Farmacy operations oversite
    • NBIMC Women s Wellness Food Farmacy
    • St James Health Food Farmacy
    • JCMC Food Farmacy
    • RWJUH New Brunswick Food Farmacy
    • Farmers Market at NBIMC accepting social service food access benefits including SNAP, WIC. Senior Farmers market Nutrition Program
    • Oversees CDC Cooperative Agreement reaching Newark, New Brunswick and Jersey City with specific oversite in key strategies:
      • Fruit and Vegetable Voucher Incentive and Produce Prescription programs
  • Assist with operation and staffing and coordination in the future Food Hub Cooperative scheduled for opening in August 2025
  • Assist with operation oversite additional Food Farmacies planned for 2025-2026 and further expansion throughout the system

Budget oversite:

  • Oversees NBIMC Community Wellness budget
  • Assists with oversite of CDC REACH Cooperative Agreement budget
  • Assists with oversite of Corporate SNAP Navigator grant program budget

Direct reports: 6 Full-time position and 1 part-time position(s)

  • 1 FT Registered Dietitian, NBIMC Wellness Services
  • 1 FT Registered Dietitian, St. James Health Food Farmacy
  • 2 FT Food Access Coordinators, NBIMC s Women s Wellness Food Farmacy
  • 1 PT Food Access Coordinator, St. James Health Food Farmacy
  • 1 FT Greenhouse Assistant coordinator, NBIMC s Beth Greenhouse
  • Additional staffing to be hired for projects slated in 2025-2026

Acts as front-line operational liaison in many SICI key partner relationships both present and future. Current partners include but not limited to:

  • Urban Agriculture Cooperative and local farmers
  • The State Division of Family Development
  • City Green
  • Food Democracy Collaborative
