Geosyntec has an opportunity for a limited-term, part-time Senior Consultant - Dam Safety (5 hrs/wk) to support our growing Dams & Levees practice in Johnson City, TN. This position is available to work remotely and will have some travel to provide client workshops.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Collaboration and mentoring are cornerstones of Geosyntec's culture. We operate under a sell-manage-do culture, and so we expect that you'd work on challenging technical projects while leveraging your existing knowledge and experience to help Geosyntec expand its current practices and capabilities through business development and client management. You may also be asked to take on project management responsibilities and mentoring tasks. Some of the key responsibilities may include:

    Full knowledge of the health and safety program and acts as Geosyntec's Safety Representative on site when required.
  • Manage and coordinate activities on job sites to ensure compliance with relevant contract documents (e.g., technical specifications, construction drawings, sampling plans, CQA plans etc.), permit requirements, and others.
  • Provide technical input for designs of cut-off walls, spillways, and overall modifications of dams, levees, and hydraulic structures
  • Assembles proposals which includes performing risk assessment, value engineering, estimating, engineering, technical writing, site visits and client communication.
  • Review and approve contractors' construction quality control (CQC) procedures including material submittals and manufacturers' quality control (MQC) documents for completeness and compliance.
  • Provide technical input and day to day use of electronic construction information management tools developed by Geosyntec and outside vendors.
  • Maintain time documentation, analyze construction schedules and critical path management (CPM), and monitor construction progress with respect to scheduling and CPM tasks.
  • A strong attention to detail and documentation as evidenced by daily logs, Key Performance Indicator (KPI) tracking, periodic reporting, and other standard construction management activities.
  • An ability to exhibit flexibility which may require late night and/or weekend attention and/or short notice travel to address project-related issues.
  • Effectively stewarding and building client relationships to repeat business; and
  • Developing business opportunities with new and existing clients and preparing associated proposals.
  • Travel Requirements: 25%+


Education and Licensure

  • Bachelor's degree in civil or structural engineering or a related field. (required)
  • Advanced degree in the same. (preferred)


Skills, Experience and Qualifications

  • At least 15 years of directly relevant experience in dam structural safety, or equivalent combination of education and experience. (required)
  • Ability to succeed in a fast-paced consulting environment, handling multiple project assignments, meeting strict deadlines, and traveling to client facilities as needed. (required)
  • Overnight travel to deliver client training. (required)
  • Valid U.S. driver's license and a satisfactory driving record for business travel. (required)
