The Opportunity with McKinstry

McKinstry is seeking a dynamic and strategic Purchasing Manager to oversee purchasing operations, develop efficient processes, and cultivate a high-performing team. Key Responsibilities

Purchasing Operations & Strategic Sourcing:

  • Develop and sustain an optimal supply base by fostering long-term vendor partnerships built on trust, shared objectives, and transparency. Ensure the timely delivery of high-quality materials at competitive costs by prioritizing reliability and responsiveness in supplier selection.
  • Conduct comprehensive expenditure analyses to identify cost-saving opportunities without compromising quality or efficiency, leveraging collaborative problem-solving with vendors to implement win-win solutions.
  • Perform detailed market evaluations to assess trends, emerging technologies, and competitive dynamics, enabling the recommendation of effective short- and long-term sourcing strategies. Provide stakeholders with risk-benefit analyses to ensure informed decision-making and strategic alignment.
  • Facilitate seamless collaboration between the purchasing team and vendors, promoting open communication, mutual accountability, and streamlined processes for optimal outcomes.
  • Represent McKinstry in supplier meetings as a champion of the company's purchasing philosophy, fostering partnerships that prioritize quality, value, and alignment with organizational objectives. Explore and evaluate supplier offerings, ensuring they align with both immediate and future operational needs.

Leadership & Team Development:

  • Cultivate an environment of continuous learning and improvement by providing constructive feedback, and clear development plans for the purchasing team. Empower team members to excel in their roles and prepare them for future growth opportunities within the organization.
  • Actively mentor and coach team members, fostering a collaborative culture that prioritizes innovation, accountability, and problem-solving to achieve operational excellence.
  • Serve as a hands-on leader by stepping in to support and perform purchasing functions when needed, ensuring uninterrupted workflow during peak periods, staff absences, or unexpected challenges
  • Develop and monitor key performance indicators (KPIs) for the purchasing team to ensure alignment with organizational objectives and promote accountability.
  • Facilitate opportunities for team members to gain experience in different areas of the procurement process, enhancing their skill sets and preparing them for diverse roles within the organization.

Stakeholder Collaboration & Strategic Alignment:

  • Forge strong partnerships with Field Superintendents to regularly evaluate the performance and efficiency of the purchasing department, identifying opportunities for improvement and implementing innovative solutions to enhance its overall effectiveness.
  • Work collaboratively with internal stakeholders, fostering open communication and teamwork to address operational challenges that require managerial intervention and alignment with company and department goals.
  • Maintain consistent and proactive communication with all McKinstry locations to deliver exemplary customer service and ensure that purchasing operations meet the unique needs of each location.
  • Serve as a representative and advocate for McKinstry's purchasing philosophy and standards during vendor site visits, strengthening vendor relationships while ensuring adherence to organizational values and procurement requirements.
  • Collaborate closely with the Supply Chain teams to synchronize strategies, share insights, and capitalize on emerging opportunities that improve the supply chain's efficiency, sustainability, and cost-effectiveness.

Qualifications

  • Minimum of five (5) years of experience in purchasing or procurement required.
  • 2+ years of experience leading teams and driving results in complex environments.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, SharePoint).
  • Bachelor's degree in Construction Management, Business Administration, or related field (or equivalent work experience) required.
  • Prior experience in the mechanical contractor industry preferred.
  • CPM or CPSM certification strongly preferred.

Physical Demands & Work Environment

  • Flexibility and willingness to travel as needed.
  • Access to reliable personal transportation for meetings and job site visits (reimbursed)

The pay range for this position is $80,100- $134,400 per year; however, base pay offered may vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. This is a non-exempt role and will be paid hourly. A bonus may be provided as part of the compensation package, in addition to a full range of medical, financial, and/or other benefits, dependent on the position offered. Base pay information is based on market location.
