Responsibilities
The Mechanical Equipment Systems Manager will oversee the preventive and corrective maintenance, as well as the day-to-day operational support, of the MCAS Miramar Microgrid and Electrical Distribution System. This includes managing the maintenance of associated systems such as natural gas and diesel generators, generator support equipment (including Selective Catalyst Reduction [SCR] aqueous urea storage), SCADA, and advanced metering infrastructure. The Manager will be responsible for ensuring the efficient and compliant performance of routine maintenance tasks while coordinating more complex work with licensed subcontractors. They will work closely with the on-site Project Manager and other stakeholders to ensure smooth operations and the achievement of key performance metrics.
- Lead and manage the maintenance team in performing routine inspections, preventive maintenance (PM), and minor repairs on mechanical systems.
- Oversee the monitoring and maintenance of diesel and natural gas generators, fueling systems, and associated equipment to ensure optimal performance.
- Ensure that preventive maintenance tasks, such as checking fuel tank levels, lube oil levels, cooling systems, exhaust integrity, and battery condition, are carried out efficiently and safely.
- Supervise system programming, diagnostics, and troubleshooting to maximize operational efficiency, manage alarms, and prevent equipment failures.
- Maintain comprehensive records of preventive and corrective maintenance activities, and develop and implement planned maintenance schedules to ensure all systems are operating at peak efficiency.
- Coordinate and support bi-annual testing of the Microgrid system during scheduled test exercises, ensuring proper preparation and execution.
- Ensure strict adherence to industry standards, OEM recommendations, and government specifications to guarantee regulatory compliance and system safety.
- Collaborate with subcontractors and original equipment manufacturers (OEM) for the performance of specialized maintenance or repairs outside the team's scope.
Systems and Equipment Managed:
- Diesel and natural gas generators, after-treatment systems, generator cooling systems, control boards, transfer switches, batteries, UPS systems, wiring, and cabling.
- Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition (SCADA) systems and communication infrastructure.
- Microgrid systems, Utility Monitoring and Control Systems (UMCS), and fuel-level alarm systems.
Qualifications
- Years of Experience - 15+ years with a High school diploma or 13+ years with an Associates degree or 10+ with a Bachelor of Science degree or 7+ years with a Masters degree
- Progressive hands-on experience in an environment with Critical complex equipment with levels of redundancy and efficiency.
- A minimum of eight years supervisory experience in O&M of large complex commercial buildings and mission critical environments.
- A minimum of 5+ years' experience in operations team management including performance management of personnel.
- Proven expertise in managing the maintenance of mechanical systems, including generators, cooling systems, and HVAC.
- Strong experience with preventive and corrective maintenance on generators and associated mechanical systems.
- Knowledge of system programming, diagnostics, and alarm management, with a focus on optimizing operational efficiencies.
- Thorough understanding of industry codes, manufacturer specifications, and safety standards, including Lock Out/Tag Out procedures.
- Ability to ensure compliance with environmental and cybersecurity protocols.
- Excellent leadership and communication skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with internal teams and external contractors.
Preferred Licenses:
- Strong electrical and HVAC background in areas including UPS and emergency power systems, Chillers and Cooling Towers-PM Requirements and attention.
- Ability to read and interpret facility blueprints and electrical schematics
- Experience with Building Automated Systems
- Knowledge of federal, state, and local codes and regulations
- Contract management experience helpful
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Computer literacy including a working knowledge of MS Project and the MS Office Suite
- Fluent/Experience in a Computerized Maintenance Management Systems (CMMS)
- A demonstrated ability to identify, analyzes, and resolves complex problems associated with general construction, and maintenance/repair of commercial facilities.
- Active Engineering License preferred (determined by location of services)
- While the role focuses on mechanical systems, the Manager must have a comprehensive understanding of the trade licenses required to support equipment maintenance. Electrical work will be handled by licensed subcontractors as needed, but knowledge of electrical systems is beneficial

Pay Range
USD $164,880.00 - USD $247,320.00 /Yr.
