DESCRIPTION OF WORK

As a Recovery Support Specialist, you will be providing peer support services for consumers in recovery from substance abuse disorders, in an environment of mutual respect, empowerment, and opportunity to promote self-sufficiency. You will have the opportunity to serve as a consumer advocate through the various stages of recovery and recovery maintenance by helping them gain access to needed resources in the community, public services, educational opportunities, as well as employment and vocational skill services. Work involves providing pertinent information that will assist them in overcoming barriers, self-identifying, and setting personal goals for recovery; assisting in helping them bridge gaps between their needs and available resources; as well as providing feedback to help them recognize their strengths and recovery options. Additional responsibilities include:
- Assisting consumers in building social skills and teaching them to identify and combat negative self- talk
- Advocating for individual and family needs with substance abuse professionals, mental health professionals, and others within the general community
- Conducting recovery check-ups
- Attending treatment team meetings and trainings
- Attending and participating in various community events, health fairs, and activities
- Preparing weekly, monthly, and quarterly reports
Work Schedule and Additional Information:
- Full-time employment
- Work hours are 8:30 AM to 4:30 PM, Monday - Friday, with a 30-minute lunch.
- Telework: You will not have the option to telework in this position.
- Salary: In some cases, the starting salary may be non-negotiable.

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE, TRAINING & ELIGIBILITY

QUALIFICATIONS Special Requirements:
- Full certification as a drug and alcohol recovery support specialist by a statewide certification body which is a member of a National certification body or certification by another state government's substance abuse certification board.
Other Requirements:

- You must be able to perform essential job functions.
Legal Requirements:
- You must pass a background investigation.
- A conditional offer of employment will require a medical examination and drug screening.
- This position falls under the provisions of the Older Adult Protective Services Act.
- Under the Act, a conditional offer of employment will require submission and approval of satisfactory criminal history reports, including but not limited to, PA State Police and FBI clearance.
- This position falls under the provisions of the Child Protective Services Law.
- Under the Law, a conditional offer of employment will require submission and approval of satisfactory criminal history reports including, but not limited to, PA State Police clearance, PA Child Abuse history clearance, and FBI Fingerprint clearance.
