Job Summary
Facilitate compliance for research conducted at Georgia Institute of Technology. Support the institution by serving as the primary intake handler for human subjects research protocol applications. Conduct preliminary reviews of such applications/protocols, coordinate additional reviews by other stakeholders, and communicate the results of reviews to the researchers. Provide user assistance for the compliance software system through which applications are submitted. This position will interact on a regular basis with: Georgia Tech faculty, staff, students. IRB members (including community members), Institute leadership, and external partners. This position typically will advise and counsel: Institute leadership, researchers, staff and others. This position will supervise: N/A.
Responsibilities
Job Duty 1 - Provide guidance to research personnel on application preparation and review study protocols regarding regulatory requirements.
Job Duty 2 - Perform intake and preliminary review of human subjects research applications including review of new protocols, amendments, and renewals.
Job Duty 3 - Prepare, review, and maintain records and other documentation related to research compliance for IRB through the creation of meeting minutes and inspection reports.
Job Duty 4 - Coordinate campus-wide training for IRB compliance. Review, validate, and maintain training records for regulated activities.
Job Duty 5 - Protocol administration for new protocols, amendments, renewals and annual reviews.
Job Duty 6 - Maintain current awareness of regulatory compliance policies and processes.
Job Duty 7 - Assist with compliance system testing and user training.
Job Duty 8 - Perform other related duties as assigned.
Required Qualifications
Educational Requirements Bachelor's degree or equivalent combination of education and experience.
Required Experience Two to four years of job-related experience.
Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities
ABILITIES Ability to analyze data.
KNOWLEDGE Knowledge in the application of federal and institutional regulations regarding one or more of the following compliance areas: human subject research, animal subject research, recombinant DNA, dual-use research of concern, export control, or research conflicts of interest. Knowledge and understanding of human subject research regulations including but not limited to: Department of Health & Human Services 45 CFR 46, FDA 21 CFR Parts 50 and 56, Department of Defense (DoD) and FERPA. Knowledge and understanding of U.S. regulations for activities involving NIH clinical trials including but not limited to: NIH Policies & Regulations for Human Subjects. Familiarity with reporting/operating tools associated with the position.
SKILLS Strong organizational skills, clear written and verbal communication, and professionalism. Strong proficiency with Microsoft Suite (OneDrive, Teams, Word, etc.) and remote meeting hosting.
