Summary of Job Duties:The Dean oversees courses in art, education, early childhood, English composition, literature, developmental English, music, philosophy, Spanish and theatre. The dean oversees multiple budgets and reports to the VC Academics. Candidate will demonstrate excellent interpersonal and communication skills; a strong commitment to student success and faculty/staff development; a comfort with change, innovation, and technology; and the use of data for decision-making. Some teaching is required.
Experience with Blackboard Anthology or Workday strongly recommended.
12 month position.

An academic dean shall be responsible to the Vice Chancellor for Academics and has the following duties:

1. To be responsible for designing and implementing a systematic plan for the division, to include teaching activities, student learning, and a program for the annual evaluation/assessment of all programs and courses and the reporting and use of results.
2. To give direction, supervision and assistance to each faculty and staff member within the division.
3. To be responsible for planning and recommending class schedules and teaching assignments.
4. To supervise the preparation and updating of course syllabi and to assist faculty in the formulation of stated competency objectives for each course and the assessment of the learning of those objectives.
5. To be responsible for reporting to the Curriculum Committee and the Academic Leadership any changes or revisions of the curriculum in the department and serve as a member of the Academic Leadership.
6. To recommend textbooks and other instructional material to the Curriculum Committee and to the Vice Chancellor for Academics.
7. To review posted textbooks for accuracy working closely with the book rental staff.
8. To be responsible for requisitioning supplies, equipment, and textbooks required for each course in their respective department.
9. To be responsible for all things regarding course scheduling and location. Paying close attention to course limits and availability.
10. To maintain course and program offerings that are UP TO DATE, keeping course outcomes in line with both higher education and industry needs.
11. To have a thorough knowledge of the programs and degree plans within their respective divisions
12. To inform new faculty members, both full- and part-time, about the day-to-day operations of the College, including absence reporting, grade deadlines, accuracy of class rolls, etc.
13. To evaluate division faculty members and recommend each to the Vice Chancellor for Academics for renewal or nonrenewal of contract. This written evaluation shall identify areas in which department members need or require improvement, with methods outlined to address such needs.
14. To be responsible for faculty development activities at the division level.
15. Complete the written Assessment and Planning Report and assist faculty with completion of the presentation.
16. To prepare and coordinate the execution of the divisional budgets in cooperation with all members of the division through the Vice Chancellor for Academics.
17. To advise the Vice Chancellor for Academics as to staffing needs and prospective growth in the division, and to assist in the recruitment, screening and selection of new employees and students.
18. To provide a leadership role in increasing faculty capabilities in teaching and student support responsibilities.
19. To work with the UAHT Library in the areas of evaluation and acquisition of divisional library holdings.
20. To be responsible for property assigned to the division, for conducting an inventory of all furniture and equipment in the division at the end of each school year, and for reporting any missing or stolen items.
21. To supervise or authorize supervision of the students assigned to the division under student work programs and prepare the monthly payroll timesheet for each student worker.
22. Report absences of faculty members of the division using the appropriate forms.
23. To arrange for substitute instructors, from the same division, when possible, in the event of faculty absences in their division.
24. To serve 1 day per week on the Texarkana campus.
25. To assist the Vice Chancellor for Academics in making faculty office assignments.
26. To work with advisory committees in general education and technical programs as required.
27. To work with the Vice Chancellor for Academics on tasks as assigned. Qualifications:

Minimum MastersDegreein one of the subject areas of arts, humanitiesor education. Minimum of 5 years teaching experience in community college or university classroom.
