THE POSITION
-
This role functions as a PennDOT Driver License Examiner, contributing importantly to highway safety through the administration of standardized tests that assess the abilities and qualifications of individuals applying for non-commercial driver licenses. In addition to performing these evaluations, the examiner also supports the operations at the Driver License Center by assisting customers at the counter. A key aspect of this position involves scrutinizing identity documents to prevent identity theft and fraud, ensuring the integrity of the licensing process.

DESCRIPTION OF WORK

In this position, you will assess the physical and driving qualifications of applicants, as well as evaluate the mechanical condition of vehicles to ensure they meet the established safety standards for driving. You will conduct various vision tests, including telebinocular and color perception assessments, to gauge applicants' visual capabilities. Additionally, you will administer both non-commercial and commercial driver license knowledge examinations to individuals, verifying their understanding of the Vehicle Code and traffic signage. You will also oversee the non-commercial driver license pre-trip, skills, and driving tests, ensuring compliance with departmental standards. Your responsibilities will include scrutinizing applications, registrations, and permits for any signs of irregularities or fraud, as well as determining vehicle specifications to ensure the correct tests are conducted. Furthermore, you will inspect motor vehicles for compliance with safety features such as inspection stickers, lights, and windshield wipers. You will review various documents, including applications, birth certificates, Social Security cards, marriage certificates, court documents, proof of residency, and other identification issued by governmental agencies, both domestic and foreign, to verify their authenticity. Utilizing multiple systems and databases, you will authenticate identity documents, establish individuals' identities and eligibility for driver's licenses or identification cards, and work to identify and prevent fraud, including the creation of false identities and identity theft. You will process test results and applications, issuing driver licenses and identification cards to qualified applicants, while also providing information and services related to renewals, duplicates, out-of-state transfers, motorcycle licenses, and commercial driver's licenses, including their specific restrictions and endorsements. - Full-time employment, 80 hours bi-weekly
- Work hours are 8:15 AM to 4:45 PM, Tuesday - Saturday, with a 30-minute lunch.
- This position may require overtime and travel.
- Telework: You will not have the option to telework in this position.

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE, TRAINING & ELIGIBILITY

QUALIFICATIONS Minimum Experience and Training Requirements:
One year of experience as a Driver License Examiner Assistant (Commonwealth job title or equivalent Federal Government job title, as determined by the Office of Administration); or Two years of experience obtaining, evaluating, and providing information to the public.
Special Requirements:
- This position require an active Pennsylvania non-commercial Class C Driver's License or equivalent and twenty-one years of age at the time of application.
- This position require no suspensions or revocations of a driver's license during the five year period immediately preceding employment.
- All employees in this job hired after February 28, 2022, are required to obtain an active unrestricted Class M driver's license within the first six months of employment or before the end of the probationary period and maintain it during employment.
