Expectations:

The Executive Medical Director, Inpatient Services (EMDIS) reports to the Chief Clinical Officer. Working with the Chief Clinical officer, CNO, CFO, VP of Safety/ Quality and the leadership of the Medical Staff, this physician leader will provide clinical leadership and oversight of the inpatient services that impact patient flow and post-hospitalization placement. These areas include Patient flow - the EMDIS will work in close collaboration with the Nursing Director, Patient Flow and Capacity to ensure appropriate hospital admissions, optimization of hospital observation status, and appropriate utilization of clinical resources. Social Work - The EMDIS will have administrative oversight over Huntington's robust Social Work Service Department. This group includes over 25 clinical FTEs who provide comprehensive social work services in our emergency department, hospital and inpatient behavioral health unit. Case Management - The EMDIS will have administrative oversight over Huntington's Case Management program. This group includes over 25 FTE who are responsible for providing the safe transition from acute care hospital services to the post-acute care setting including safe handoffs to primary care providers. Palliative Care Services - The EMDIS will have oversight over Huntington's Palliative Care program which include 3 physician FTE as well as inpatient General Inpatient Care (GIP) in hospice. Spiritual Care Services - The EMDIS will have oversight over Huntington's comprehensive spiritual care program including both employed and volunteer chaplaincies. Utilization Management - The EMDIS will collaborate with the existing HH UM program including active participation in the physician advisors committee and program with participation in utilization review and interprofessional rounds, clinical documentation improvement program and coding integrity. Medical Staff - The EMDIS will work closely with the hospital medical staff leadership (particularly as it relates to inpatient care) to collaborate on improvement work.

EDUCATION:
Medical Degree (MD, D.O., or equivalent degree) from an accredited medical school required.
Board Certified in Medical Specialty (or sub-specialty of same) required (primary care, family medicine, internal medicine, critical care, or general surgery)
Additional training with master's level degrees in management (MPA, MPP, MHA, or MBA) with basic coursework in queuing and linear programming is preferred

EXPERIENCE/TRAINING:
Candidates must have five (5) or more years of experience as a practicing physician and three (3) or more years of administrative experience improving a hospital/health system's efficiency, effectiveness, quality, and resource utilization (e.g., Utilization Management, Quality Improvement, etc.).
Candidate must have demonstrated expertise in EMR systems and Utilization Management software programs with strong analytical, quantitative and problem-solving skills.
Candidates must possess highly developed skills working effectively with a wide variety of stakeholders and constituencies who have strong interests and legitimate requirements.
Candidates will need to demonstrate a high level of personal confidence, presence, and professional demeanor with the ability to build rapport with the Medical Staff and HH leadership and to manage through conflicting points of views with stakeholder teams during times of change and ambiguity.
Demonstrated superior interpersonal, communication and presentation skills, in settings from one-on-one to large groups.

LICENSES/CERTIFICATIONS:
Required:
Doctor of Medicine (MD or DO)

SKILLS:
Broad knowledge and thorough understanding of the trends and forces shaping health care delivery.
Demonstrates experience in population health management, clinical decision support, and use of analytics to drive change.
Demonstrates competence in Continuous Quality Improvement processes including experience in measuring, assessing, and improving services and processes.
Demonstrates knowledge of the National Patient Safety Goals with the ability to apply each National Patient Safety Goal to his/her own responsibilities.
Demonstrates knowledge of the hospital's Patient Safety program and can describe the hospital's Significant Adverse Event process.
Demonstrates understanding and utilizes the chain of command as it relates to his/her own job.
Demonstrates understanding of the hospital's Culture of Safety and is committed to providing the highest quality patient care measured in high patient experience scores, continuous clinical performance initiatives, excellent medical outcomes and financial sustainability.
