Position Summary:

The Certified Medical Assistant will have both administrative and clinical responsibilities. These responsibilities include greeting patients and scheduling appointments, obtaining vital signs, preparing patients for their appointment and documenting appropriately in the electronic medical record.

Education:

  • High School diploma or GED.
  • Graduate of an accredited medical assistant program.
  • Credentialed by one of the following: American Association of Medical assistants as a Certified Medical Assistant, National Health Career Association as a Certified Clinical Medical Assistant, and National Center for Competency Testing as a National Certified Medial Assistant.



Skills:

  • Previous medical office experience preferred.
  • Good computer knowledge and ability to type 35 words per minute.
  • Ability to take an accurate and complete patient history and vital signs.
  • Ability to establish and maintain good working relationships with patients, medical staff, coworkers, and the public.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Excellent organizational and time management skills, with attention to detail.
  • Willingness to learn new things.



Physical Demands/Work Environment

  • The ideal candidate must be able to work and complete all physical requirements of the job with or without a reasonable accommodation.


  • Stand or sit for extended periods of time; push, pull and reach; occasional bending, sitting, stooping and stretching.
  • Have full range of body motion and ability to lift up to 35 pounds.
  • Have good hand-eye coordination and manual dexterity needed to operate a keyboard, telephone, fax machine or other equipment as needed.
  • Have normal range of hearing and vision to record, prepare and communicate appropriate reports; specific vision requirements including close vision, color vision, depth perception and the ability to focus.
  • The work of this position is performed in an environmentally-controlled office environment.


  • The position requires the ability to work under pressure and with a diverse population, including staff, physicians, clients, patients, insurance companies and other members of the public on a regular basis.
  • The position may cause frequent exposure to communicable diseases, bodily fluids, medicinal preparations, cleaning fluids and other conditions common to the healthcare environment.
  • Constant kneeling, stooping, bending, twisting and occasional need to lift patients
  • Medium Lifting, generally lifting not more than 50 lbs. maximum with assistance, with frequent lifting and/or carrying of objects weighing up to 25 lbs.
  • The ideal candidate must be able to work and complete all physical requirements of the job with or without a reasonable accommodation.



Annual Requirements:

  • Current CPR certification.
  • Completes CE's per state of Illinois certification requirement.
  • Complete Annual Employee Health requirements.
  • Participates in department meetings as required.
  • Complete assigned Health Stream modules.
