About the Job

Duties:

To assist researchers with a variety of projects dedicated to soil fertility and nutrient management. These projects serve to maintain fertilizer guidelines for the state of MN and to research
nutrient cycling, fertilizer placement, and the development/use of precision agriculture in cropping systems.

  • Preparing and organizing soil and plant samples for laboratory analysis
  • Assisting researchers with various laboratory protocols and procedures
  • Washing and maintaining laboratory equipment and work spaces
  • Other miscellaneous tasks as assigned by supervisor such as basic data entry
  • Create cargographic maps explaining soil moisture types in fields
  • Develop soil sampling grids for soil moisture characteristics
  • Collect information about soil or field attributes, such as electrical conductivity, boundaries, and soil moisture
  • Use computer mapping software for variable rate irrigation
  • Compile and analyze geospatial data, including soil quality, terrain, available water holding capacity, and texture
  • Designing and implementing on farm research and leading undergraduate student workers
Qualifications

Required Qualifications

  • Basic familiarity with following research protocols and procedures
  • Willingness to work with chemicals
  • Detail-oriented and organized
  • High school diploma or equivalent
Pay and Benefits

Pay Range: $21.63 - $22.83 per hour, depending on education/qualifications/experience.
