Primary Purpose of Organizational Unit |
The Office of Scholarships and Student Aid works to ensure that qualified students have the opportunity to study at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill regardless of their ability to pay. The office serves students at all levels, including graduate and professional school students and coordinates all student financial support for the campus. The office assists in the recruitment, retention and success of students while maximizing available funds, exercising good stewardship of those funds, and performing related research, analysis and program evaluation in support of long-range enrollment and campus goals. In addition, the office provides academic and co-circular support services for scholarships, provides financial literacy and educational tools, and partners with faculty and other student success areas across campus to provide excellent service to low- and middle-income students and other scholarship recipients. The work of the office is public in nature and closely scrutinized by students and their families, lawmakers, faculty and staff at the University, and by the media (local, regional, and national). We are interested in applicants with a passion for supporting the success of underrepresented, low-income, first-generation college students and alumni connections, storytelling and connecting students and alumni for professional development. |
Position Summary |
The Carolina Covenant is
UNC-Chapel Hill's groundbreaking program for low-income students administered out of The Office of Scholarships and Student Aid. Launched in 2004, the Covenant offers a debt-free path to graduation through a combination of grants, scholarships, and a work-study job. Covenant Scholars also have access to mentoring, academic and personal support services, a Career Accelerator program, Carolina Covenant Alumni, and university wide support network with High Impact Liaisons. The Carolina Covenant has dramatically improved on-time graduation among the University's lowest-income students, transforming individual lives and building a stronger Carolina. This position focuses on alumni engagement critical to the continued momentum of interest and investment in the Covenant program and to sustaining it to future Scholars. Through our alumni outreach and engagement efforts, we share alumni stories and expertise to enhance career readiness and networking connections for current Carolina Covenant Scholars and Covenant alumni.
Primary Responsibilities
-Collaborate with the Covenant team to review, refine, and enact strategic goals for alumni engagement, to create and facilitate a robust calendar of events and alumni communications
-Assist with Alumni Advisory Board -
AAB (10+ members) meetings, doodle polls, surveys, and relevant topics to promote the three categories of relationships: 1) Alumni to Student, and 2) Alumni to Alumni, and 3) Alumni to community/donors
-Assist with expansion of alumni boards and sub-committees as approved by senior staff
-Assist with the Extended Alumni Mentoring Network to identify
UNC Alumni/Donors and Covenant Alumni and match them with Career Accelerator Program students and young alumni in their field of interest
-Assist with planning and executing three alumni speaking engagements or events per semester. This work will include identification of timely topics for discussion, identification of Alumni Advocates (100+ members) in relevant industry fields, and assistance with creating agenda items.
-Assist with communications to alumni (newsletters), students (events), Alumni Advisory Board (meetings) and Alumni Advocates (assistantships, video library submissions)
-Create and monitor alumni connection platforms such as LinkedIn and Heels Engage to build career related experiences and connection across Covenant students and alumni
-Assist in recruiting Alumni Advocates to share employment opportunities with Covenant Scholars and to submit informational videos about their careers to support Covenant Scholars' career development.
-Support Associate Director with enrolled alumni advocates in graduate and professional school and connections to programming 'Identify alumni success stories for our various communications, including our alumni newsletter, and Office of University Development fundraising campaigns
-Assist with building public service initiatives and grant proposals that build community and professional development among scholars and alumni while serving the community needs
-Attend weekly team meetings as available
The ideal candidate will be a student at
UNC Chapel Hill or another local university, enabling a hybrid work schedule that combines in-office hours, participation in essential campus events, and remote work from home. |
Minimum Education and Experience Requirements |
Bachelor's degree; or equivalent combination of training and experience. All degrees must be received from appropriately accredited institutions. |
Required Qualifications, Competencies, and Experience |
Must have strong organizational and interpersonal skills, attention to detail, be able to take initiative and handle multiple tasks simultaneously and enjoy working as a part of a team. Effective communication skills are necessary for this position. |
Preferred Qualifications, Competencies, and Experience |
Experience working with PeopleSoft.
Candidates seeking a graduate/professional degree in Higher Education Administration or relevant graduate/professional field. |
