JOB SUMMARY

Operates and maintains heavy motorized equipment. Responsible for compliance with all local, state and federal transportation regulations, and OSHA guidelines pertaining to operating heavy equipment. Trains other operators and performs various related labor tasks to maximize productivity and safety of the assigned projects.

LEVEL OF RESPONSIBILITY

* Performs varied tasks and projects directly related to craft trade. Gathers and analyzes relevant information to develop and implement the best course of action to ensure job is successfully completed in a safe manner. Often works under minimal or no supervision. Resolves most questions and problems, and refers only the most complex issues to higher level. Resolves problems through mastery of craft, trade knowledge and principles. Follows established Operating Procedures, Operating Practices and Approved Work Methods to accomplish requirements of job. Possesses career level knowledge to successfully perform job.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

* Operates heavy motorized equipment such as cranes, backhoes, bulldozers, cable pullers, hole diggers, digger derricks, conveying systems, trucks and other similar equipment.

* Provides training to other employees in the safe and correct operation of departmental equipment.

* Maintains in-depth knowledge of all governmental regulations concerning transportation and operation of equipment on or near public facilities.

* Promotes safety through actions and behavior in support of an incident and injury-free environment.

* Inspects, cleans, lubricates, services and makes minor adjustments and repairs to equipment as necessary.

* All other duties as assigned.

REQUIREMENTS

* High School Diploma/GED and Prior military experience at the journey level or one enlistment completed with DD Form 214 - Discharge Papers and Separation Documents; Or

* High School Diploma/GED and 2 years journey level experience in a craft technical/mechanical role) and

* 2 years experience operating large heavy equipment (e.g., crane 30 ton to 275 ton, D9 dozer or above, large tractors, etc.).

WORKING CONDITIONS

* May be exposed to extreme conditions and inclement weather.

* May work under hazardous conditions where physical danger exists due to mechanical equipment.

* May be required to lift fifty (50) pounds or more.

* May be required to work at heights up to and exceeding thirty (30) feet, underground and in confined spaces.

* May require travel.

* Able to bend, stoop, kneel, walk, and reach overhead.

* May be required to work overtime and weekends and holidays.

* May be required to work non-standard work schedules to include on-call and call-outs.

* May operate equipment in adverse weather conditions and in close proximity to energized equipment.

SPECIAL SAFETY REQUIREMENTS

* This is a DOT Regulated Position - Member will drive a single vehicle, or a truck and trailer combination weighing over 10,001 lbs.

* The handling, packaging, processing, storage, disposal or transport of hazardous materials;

* The operation of equipment, machinery or power tools;

* Repairing, maintaining or monitoring the performance or operation of any equipment, machinery or manufacturing process, the malfunction or disruption of which could result in injury or property damage;

* The extraction, compression, processing, manufacturing, handling, packaging, storage, disposal, treatment or transport of potentially volatile, flammable, combustible materials, elements, chemicals or any other highly regulated component;

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES (KSAS)

* Ability to understand and comply with company policies and operating procedures.

* Ability to use common purpose hand tools and other materials of various craft trades.

* Ability to work with minimal supervision, following approved work methods and standard testing practices.

* Computer skills with knowledge of MS Office Suite applications.

* Ability to lead a crew as needed.

* Ability to communicate effectively in speech and writing.

* Ability to interact effectively and professionally with team members, leaders, and customers.

* Ability to troubleshoot, diagnosis problems, and resolve effectively.

* Familiarity with federal, state and local regulations and guidelines for legal and safe operation of heavy equipment.

* Ability to teach training courses when required.

* Ability to understand heavy equipment operating and maintenance manuals for assigned equipment.

* Ability to read and comprehend load chart, capacities and heavy equipment/operating and maintenance manuals of assigned equipment.

* Demonstrated ability to adjust and adapt across varied working conditions and evolving business needs.

* Knowledge and understanding of safety requirements and the use of personal protective equipment.

* Knowledge of basic math.

* Demonstrated mechanical aptitude and familiarity working with mechanical equipment (e.g., pumps, electric motors, air compressors, valves, welding, fabrication, construction, pipe fitting, etc.).

LICENSES AND CERTIFICATIONS

* Required Certifications/Licensures:(Crane Certification and Crane Physical over 75 ton)

* Required Certifications/Licensures:(Valid Class A Commercial Driver's License with DOT certification required (21 years old or older))

SALARY RANGE

$70,824 - $83,346
