Position Purpose |
The Executive Director of Development for Faculty and Undergraduate Education will oversee and manage the fundraising efforts aimed at supporting faculty initiatives and undergraduate education programs in the School of Arts and Sciences (A&S). The position serves as a critical liaison between the Development Office and A&S, including the offices of the Dean of A&S, Dean of Faculty, and Dean of Undergraduate Education. In partnership with the
AVP, the role will implement strategies to secure major and principal gifts and foster relationships with key stakeholders. The position encourages and coordinates appropriate A&S engagement with donors, advocates for donor interests and perspectives throughout A&S, and seeks to maintain the integrity of fundraising priorities and opportunities and the process by which they are set. |

* Bachelor's degree with 10+ years of progressively responsible experience in fundraising, development, nonprofit management, higher education administration, or related roles, preferably in an educational setting
* Maturity, intelligence, professionalism, and diplomacy that earn the respect of faculty, staff, administrators, colleagues, volunteers, and donors
* Ability to raise donor sights, articulate aspirational goals and ideas, present philanthropic opportunities, and close major gifts
* Demonstrated track record as a relationship builder; capacity to deal with a wide range of relationships and situations and an ability to collaborate and influence at a high level
* Sophisticated understanding of organizational dynamics; ability to navigate the intricacies of complex organizations and building buy-in on strategies and tactics
* Highly effective written and verbal communication skills; strong negotiation skills
* Demonstrated analytical and strategic thinking capabilities
* Recognized leadership qualities and experience in motivating peers
* Strong interpersonal skills; exhibits the credibility and sophistication to effectively engage and partner with key internal and external stakeholders; excellent judgment, tact, and discretion

Collaborates with the Dean of Faculty and faculty to identify funding needs and opportunities. Develops giving opportunities to support investment in faculty research, teaching, and professional development. Works with the Dean of Undergraduate Education, faculty, and staff to support fundraising efforts for undergraduate programs and student services. |

Implementation: Works with other senior development officers and A&S administrators to further develop prospect relationships with A&S. Works closely with the Dean of A&S, Dean of Faculty, Dean of Undergraduate Education and the
AVP for Arts & Sciences Development to align development efforts with A&S philanthropic priorities and initiatives. Maintains pipeline of activity requiring administrators and faculty involvement in support of fund-raising priorities and ensures action items discussed in strategy sessions involving administrators and faculty are tracked and implemented. Develops and implements protocols to effectively and efficiently engage administrators and faculty members to assist with advancing donor relationships and solicitations. Ensures those engaged for development purposes are well prepared for the role they are asked to perform. Represents and supports the views of senior advancement management in meetings with A&S, brings issues and concerns of A&S leadership to senior management and maintains an ongoing flow of information and ideas between Development and A&S. |

Communications and Events: Strengthens relationships between alumni and their connection to A&S through strategic communications, programs, events and initiatives to increase alumni engagement and participation. Plans and executes fundraising events. Working with senior management, manages and executes special fundraising communications to prospects and donors focused on the priority needs of A&S. Communicates donor interests and perspectives in a myriad of institutional settings including but not limited to meetings with senior officers, peers, and faculty members; board meetings; and individual conversations. Seeks opportunities to educate peers across A&S about the role of philanthropy at Dartmouth and the donor stories behind past gifts and future opportunities. |
