THE POSITION

This position leads the Office of Marketing and Merchandising in the direction and execution of the overall market, planning, and product strategy for all Fine Wine & Good Spirits retail locations, as well as all licensed retailers. This includes direct oversight of the product life cycle, merchandise financial planning, product management and buying, vendor and licensee relations, marketing and advertising, and in-store visual merchandising.

DESCRIPTION OF WORK

As the Director of Marketing and Merchandising, you will be responsible for advancing the PLCB and Office of Operations mission, vision, and goals through multiple bureaus and offices who focus on management of the product life cycle, design, and branding of our agency marketing strategy, merchandising strategies within our Fine Wine and Good Spirit locations, and management of our FW&GS E-commerce website. Work will include strategic planning, policy and budget development, and directing the daily operations of several complex bureaus.

You will be responsible to serve as the principal advisor to the COO, Executive Director and the Board on all matters pertaining to the purchase, merchandising, and marketing of products for the PLCB. This includes overseeing the formulation and revision of policies, and reviewing programs and legislation to develop executive policy recommendations that will enable the PLCB to be a retail industry leader. The Director is also responsible for the development of annual and seasonal buying and merchandising strategies, driving the total business financial merchandising plans, and delivering strong brand and customer relevance assortments.

Work Schedule and Additional Information:

  • Full-time employment
  • Work hours are 8:30 AM to 5:00 PM, Monday - Friday, with a 60-minute lunch.
  • Telework: You may have the opportunity to work from home (telework) part-time, up to 3 days per week, and report to the Northwest Office Building in Harrisburg 2 days per week. In order to telework, you must have a securely configured high-speed internet connection and work from an approved location inside Pennsylvania. If you are unable to telework, you will have the option to report to the headquarters office in Harrisburg.

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE, TRAINING & ELIGIBILITY

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Nine years of professional experience performing purchasing, marketing, or merchandising functions within a retail company that includes five years of program and policy planning and development experience and five years of managerial experience, and a bachelor's degree in marketing, merchandising, or closely related field; or
  • Nine years of professional experience performing purchasing, marketing, or merchandising functions for a retail company that includes five years of program and policy planning and development experience and five years of managerial experience, and four years of para-professional experience in marketing, merchandising, or closely related field; or
  • An equivalent combination of experience and training that includes five years of professional program and policy planning and development experience and five years of professional managerial experience.

Additional Requirements:

  • You must have five years of executive leadership experience managing a Merchandise purchasing, budgeting and marketing organization. Qualifying executive leadership is a position that reports to the CEO, president, agency head, or equivalent, and directs subordinate managers and supervisors; experience must include setting strategic direction, making high-impact decisions, and driving organizational success.
  • You must have five years of experience in managing and/or oversight of product purchasing.
  • You must have five years of experience with product marketing, organizational branding, and marketing design.
  • You must be able to perform essential job functions.

Preferred Qualifications (not required):

  • Experience performing purchasing, marketing, or merchandising functions in the consumer packaged goods industry
  • Strong financial, budgeting, and analytical skills
  • Proficiency with Microsoft applications including Word, Excel, and Outlook
  • Strong communication skills
  • Creative problem solver and strategic thinking
  • Executive leadership ability

Legal Requirements:

  • You must pass a background investigation. An applicant with a felony conviction within the last ten years of their prospective date of employment is not permitted to work for the PLCB, per section 210(c) of the Pennsylvania Liquor Code. Other criminal convictions will be reviewed on a case-by-case basis.
